2023.03.22 17:17 ThatPersonGu Stomps make battleboarding unfun.

Most battleboarding rants either only scratch the superficial issues with battleboarding or just go "well it's impossible to REALLY know how two characters would interact with each other so all battleboarding is wrong". Battleboarding can be fun though, it can be really fun, it's just held back by the parts people fixate on.
Stripped back, "if x character fought y character, who would win?" is a pretty fun question. The question asks less who is provably stronger and more how each character is written. Toonforce kinda sucks in battleboarding but it's the distilled essence of this: forget feats and force output and tank busting, is your character the \type* of person who can make Bugs Bunny look lame?* At its core all fair fights in storytelling are this: two characters with similar degrees of capability but drastically different internal rules interact, and the writer has to figure out which character would win, or more often why the character that wins did win here.
Battleboarding online sucks because the stuff most battleboarders really like are stomps. People like big mismatches of power to talk about how incredibly supremely above one character another is, and when there's not a clear immediate mismatch you get powerscaling and fan calcs and dimensional tiers and ____force wank and all that nonsense to justify why a fight that looks like it should be even is actually a onesided stomp for the character I like more. I can't even shit on this too badly because I like stomps. It's fun when the Dragon Ball Z fight happens where the one guy thinks he's a match for the other guy but the other guy is way way way out of his league for the 1000th time, it's a cool hype dynamic, it's just not fun to talk about. It's not fun to have your characters be on the receiving end of uninteractive bitter answers because according to this incredibly inconsistent outlier your setting is actually 100000 times weaker than this other setting "scientifically", so there's this arms race to wank every setting beyond the moon and back because nobody wants to deal with that shit for every question.
Character Scramble stuff is overwhelmingly more fun just because the basic tier limits and focus on how you write one side winning over which side actually wins pushes battleboarding to the actually fun part: Navelgazing over different styles of writing and pouring over in-universe details to figure out how two character from radically different settings, genres, and backgrounds might interact with each other. But that's not as immediately funny as "_____ roflstomps the verse with a pinky toe" so, it is what it is.
Idk, is it weird that I would rather the occasional mismatch with interesting in depth thought over deeply boring stomps? It's not like characters in Dragon Ball and Naruto don't frequently, frequently fight below their supposed natural capabilities because their mangaka cannot and do not distinguish between "psychopath from hell who blows up thirteen planets in his sleep" and "dinosaur with really sharp teeth", it's weird people hold these works to higher consistency standards than the creators themselves do.

she went to the dead lands and at best got a few months running from the gods under the protection of the silver dragon only to die for good in the end of that big fight...assuming she did not get eaten immediately.
i mean death is tragic but a least it only happens once but the dead lands being a hunting ground for the god regardless of what you did in life unless you were super evil is just so much more F-ed up. it compounds every death in this series and makes it worse.
do you think people are still alive inside the gods or are they gone for good? if they are still alive what about the ones trapped in the trapped gods?

I got my Wife to watch Dragon Ball Super with me, and she fell IN LOVE with the 'Sassy Purple Kitty Cat' as she called him. So, I made this build for her.
Tabaxi Divine Soul Sorcerer 8 Vengence Paladin 8 Hexblade Warlock (Blade Pact) 4
Str 13 Dex 13 (14) Con 14 Int 8 Wis 9 Cha 15 (17)
Pump up Charisma to 20, maybe boost str to 14 alongside Charisma getting to 18, get Wisdom Resilience, and lastly Warcaster.
Pros: Charisma does almost everything: Attacks, Damage, Spells, Saving Throws. Even AC if your DM is okay with swaping out (Heavy) Armor & maybe Shield proficency for Charisma Based Unarmored Defense
Concentration King Proficency +6, Constitution +2, Charisma +5 = 13 adding Advantage means nothing short of a BBEG can make you drop concentration.
Variable Spells Healing, Blasting, Buffing, There isn't much you can't do! Hold Person & Smites make for an amazing combination.
Cons: Claws aren't amazing. 1d4 isn't the best damage dice, but the smiting is the real point of melee damage.
AC is dependant on either Mage Armor or a cool DM.
Highest Spell Slot is 4th. Not amazing, but not terrible. That & the amount of concentration Spells could be a minor issue.

Forest Ruins spawn in any forest biome like oak forests, taiga forests, Cherry groves and jungles and include blocks based on the biome it’s in like, for example, one in a cherry grove would be made out of cherry logs and dirt whilst a jungle one would include jungle wood and mossy cobblestone. These would have a new block (suspicious dirt) included in them and would be pretty cool to come across whilst exploring and would also include their own loot pool completely separate from desert temples, desert wells and ocean ruins. This includes:
