2023.05.30 13:35 gingereno Daily "Earn an Achievement in Game Pass" - CHICORY: A COLORFUL TALE - "Helpful" (+1 more)

If you like this post, or think others would find it helpful please upvote and/or comment to both provide me with feedback and improve visibility.

TODAY'S ACHIEVEMENT CAN BE ACQUIRED IN MERE MINUTES (1-2)

Everyday at or before work I play a short game session on Game Pass with the focus of getting an achievement; I usually play the newest title on the service, and sometimes I wish I had known which achievement(s) would come up when, and how far in. That's what I'm doing here, so hopefully some find it helpful.
Today I played CHICORY: A COLORFUL TALE developed by Greg Lobanov (Published by "Finji"). It's a 2D top-down adventure game where you play an small cartoon dog in a world that needs the color drawn back into it. It's a very cute game with emphasis on helping NPCs (who seem to be all named after food) and coloring, with things like combat being reserved for boss fights (which are in the Bullet Hell genre more than anything else).
HOWLONGTOBEAT: ~9.5 hours (critical path) to 21 hours (Completionist).
If you'd like an already existing achievement guide, you can use the PlayStation guide, since this title only released on Xbox today. As far as I know, the Achievements are the same from platform to platform.
Onto the achievement...

Achievement #1: "Helper"

Once you launch the game begin a new game (naming your character as your favorite food). Begin cleaning the room you're in, shortly thereafter a crisis ensues and you will leave the room to go find someone to help. At the end of a hallway you'll find a brush lying on the ground. Interact with it, and pick it up; ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED.
Now, how long can you continue enjoying Chicory before running into another achievement? Well, actually you can get quite a ways into the story. Here's how much you can do (as far as I discovered):

Setting Yourself Up for the Next Achievement:

[DISCLAIMER]: I explored a little bit around the map and talked to NPCs, but I wasn't exhaustive, as a result there's always the chance I missed an achievement that you could accidentally discover.
For my experience, I was able to continue on outside the main tower you start the game in, and play the storyline until you return to said tower after a first boss battle.
So there's quite a lot of gaming to do if you just want to check out Chicory, including a boss battle and coloring in the world.
A tip to help with coloring: hold the color trigger to fill in the space you're brush is occupying on screen.

Thoughts on Chicory: A Colorful Tale

The game seems charming, in its own way. It definitely seems appropriate for younger audiences (if any of you are looking for such titles), even though the boss battle did have fairly complex mechanics for younger (or newer) gamers.
It reminded me of old Super Nintendo games I played as a youth, mostly due to the top-down angle the game is played at, in it's adventuring style; and the text-based/reading aspect for NPC interaction.
Overall, I don't think I'll play Chicory again, but that's just because it's not the kind of game I'm into at this stage in my life, but so far, it seemed like a solid game. Though, it being so small a development team, I do wonder if there are any significant bugs/glitches.

That's it, that's all. Hopefully the achievement guide was helpful for you to get that sweet sweet 50 Microsoft Rewards points using Game Pass' Quests, but also to allow you to know how far along the game you can go safely without popping unwanted achievements.
I have two similar previous posts, one on Railway Empires 2, the other on Cassette Beasts. I was going to do Massive Chalice today, but seeing a new entry on the Game Pass service, I had to give it a go first. Maybe that'll be tomorrow's game I try...
Happy hunting, gamers.

2023.05.30 13:27 3spaghettis Right lower abdominal pain that resolves with exercise?

As I've mentioned in another recent post, I (62F) have had intermittent diarrhea for the past 12 years, and my GI doctors at the IBD center have been trying to decide if I have just nonspecific inflammation of the terminal ileum, or mild Crohn's disease.
In recent months, I've developed intermittent right, lower abdominal pain, as well. This is new for me. The pain tends to be fairly mild (I can still go to work and function, and can mostly ignore it), but the bouts of pain can last many hours. I have found that if I exercise when I'm having the pain, the pain often resolves. (For me, exercise is either taking walk, or going to the golf driving range and hitting some balls).
Does anyone else get something like this? Why would exercise help? Does that mean I have something like trapped gas, and the exercise gets things moving?
Yes, I will discussing this with my doctor, as well, this week. (although I feel like it's such a strange observation that I'm concerned that he might laugh at me!)
Thank you for reading this!

2023.05.30 13:15 StoneColed_ It happened to me!

I went and pumped gas, before hopping back in the car I grabbed hand sanitizer because I was going to eat some food on my way home. I got in the car, hands still pretty wet from the hand sanitizer, and initiated a blow. After I blew, I was suprised by how long it took for the machine to pass me. Then it failed me, in the middle of the gas station parking lot in front of a line of people waiting to pump.

I think it sampled the fumes from my hand when I had to suck in on the blower. I normally rest my hand at the base of the blower while providing a sample and I think that is what caused it to fail. But I just wanted to share my experience so y'all know that it can happen when sober. I have never had anything from food or non-alcoholic drink and I pretty much eat it all. It's hand sanitizer that can get you apparently.
I can't wait to get this machine OFF this weekend!

2023.05.30 13:10 Fun_Conversation6667 Train of the future: non-stop trains with catch-up cars

So this is more an idea than an invention since I can’t redo a whole city’s transportation system myself, but I wanted to see what you thought.
So, taking the train or metro isn’t popular for most people because it takes too long - too many stops and transfers. So what if the train didn’t stop? Bear with me.
A high-speed train (like a 300 mph maglev train) zooming around the city non-stop could pass by every station in like 1/10 of the the normal time. Built right, you wouldn’t even need any transfers, it would be one long line passing by the every station in the city in less than half an hour.
But then how would people get on and off the train? At each station, people would get on a one-car “transfer train.” This small transfer train would then catch up with the high-speed train when it is passing (the two tracks would meet), latch onto its tail, effectively becoming the last car of the train (and perhaps turning off its engine). Passengers would then transfer cars while in motion: those who got on at the last station would move into the main train, those wanting to get off at the next station would go the other way - from the main train to the last car (also passing through the engine room).
The transfer train would then unlatch and go to the next station, slowing down and stopping to unload passengers.
Repeat for each station.
So how feasible would this be if a city decided to do it? There might be some engineering challenges in getting the transfer car and main high-sped train to latch on seamlessly and having passengers transfer safely from one car to another at high speed. Or maybe not, it’s already being done?
In theory, you might be able to turn a regular city metro into this system without starting from scratch - the regular metro trains could be the transfer trains. You would just need to add a high-speed train they could catch up to, and to which they could latch/unlatch.
Thoughts? Can we convince Elon Musk to build this for us? 😂

2023.05.30 13:05 StrongAwareness1370 Was I a bad and neglectful owner?

I dont know why I keep coming here to write, I think it just feels better to get things off my chest
My precious dog died 2 months ago, and i’ve been suffering with the feelings that I was a bad owner and neglected him in ways. I never ever would have thought that I was a neglectful owner, we all loved him so much. He was 16, turning 17 in august, and he ended up dying from heart failure.
But the signs were there for at least 5 months (if I had to guess), and i dont know why we all overlooked them. Like I actually dont know what was wrong with me, I had rocks for brains. He had a constant cough (a few times a day we would hear him cough), and I remember the first time we heard him coughing we just assumed it was kennel cough. But we have a second dog and he never ended up catching anything (kennel cough is highly contagious) and he continued to cough so we brought him to the vet asking if it was anything more serious.
The vet checked his heart and lungs with a stethoscope, and touched around his throat (i guess to check for tracheal collapse?) and said everything seemed fine and he wasnt too worried, but it was up to us if we wanted to go with further testing. We asked could he be coughing just because he’s old and overweight? he said could be, but we wont know exactly unless we do further testing. I dont know why, but I took comfort in those words that he ‘wasnt too worried’, so the panic subsided. I dont know why we never followed up on it with more tests when we weren’t even opposed to it. I didn’t care about the money. A blood test would have been such an easy thing to do, I wish he had brought that up on the spot. I’ve always needed people to tell me what to do, and when he left it up to us, I ended up being passive about it.
That was in early december, and more than 3 months go by where we never went again for a check up even though i’m sure we had discussed it. I feel like my mum was a huge part in why we didn’t, I think in some ways she gas lighted me into thinking it was just because he was ‘old’. She would always say that, and I used to counter argue her saying what did she even mean by that, but she was very stubborn in her thoughts. I should have been stronger, not cared what she thought. Especially because she had been proven wrong before (long story short - our other dog was starting to sometimes leak pee when he walked and she amounted it to him being ‘old’ and just starting to become incontenent, turns out he actually had a tumour which we had to remove). I know my mum loved him a lot, but she still had some very old views. At the end of the day, I am still very much at blame because I should have known better.
I just can’t believe I became so used to his coughs, I became desensitised to them. I keep telling myself, if I had known the severity of the issue, there’s no way I wouldn’t have gone again. But I dont understand why I didn’t know? I knew he was old, and surely he was bound to get problems. But I had these rose tinted glasses on, I thought he could live until he was 20, I thought it would be more obvious when a dog is sick and dying soon. He still enjoyed walks, eating, drinking etc
But I look back at videos from the last couple months, and the signs seems so so obvious now. He was getting much more tired and out of breath from short walks (I had noticed this but again amounted it to him mainly needing to lose weight, and naturally losing stamina as he got older), and I could even hear him wheezing a bit and being out of breath when I was just rubbing his belly or when he was getting excited for a walk. I just feel so stupid.
If I ever felt that he was suffering, I would have brought him in. But now i’m just scared that I missed the signs. Why wasn’t I more attentive, more observant and understanding of him growing old and developing severe health issues.
The very frustrating thing is that me and my sisters had finally brought it up again that final week that we should take him again. I had a whole 9 days since the time we discussed to call the vet, and yet I didn’t. I dont know why I can never do things straight away, why I always have to have some ‘time’ to do things. But I didnt sense the urgency, I never ever would have guessed he would pass away the next week. He also would have had his yearly check up in only 4 or 5 weeks time
On the day he died, his coughing had gotten much worse suddenly and he started lifting his head up and acting strange so we took him to the emergency. An x ray revealed an enlarged heart, we were given some medicine but 8 hours later he died. By the time we realised, it was too late. I let him down so bad, I failed him so bad. If I had only known, I would have better prepared on what to expect, I would have known that euthanasia was the best option that night. Now my poor angel had to suffer
Now a simple trip to the vet seems so easy, we should have just gone. All those days we had the chance to and yet we didn’t. I hate the way I am - so passive, so lazy, I let myself get self absorbed in my life and my job. I dont even recognise myself, younger me would be so so disappointed in myself. I thought I always took to heart how animals can’t talk and you need to be extra observant, and yet when it really mattered I became lax. I had never experienced death before (I only just turned 22) and this was just such a huge wake up call. This is now my third time taking my other dog to the vet in less than 2 months, because I’m so worried and paranoid after what happened. Now I know how it’s so so so so so so so so important to go to the vet if somethings is wrong/has changed. I thought I knew that, it’s so obvious, but clearly I didn’t.
If you’ve read this far, I just wanted to ask if reading this we came off as really neglectful and cruel owners? it’s just been eating away at me because I feel if I had read this about someone else, I would have judged them strongly. I just can’t live with the fact that thats me, im the neglectful owner. I dont know how i’m supposed to move on

2005 - No court today due to the Memorial Day holiday
2006 - Michael Jackson takes his kids and his nanny Grace to Tokyo Disneyland.
2007 - A collection of almost 2000 Jackson family items dating from the mid-1960's to the early '90's goes to auction in the Hard Rock Cafe in Las Vegas.
These are items from a storage warehouse that Henry Vaccaro came in to possession of after a failed business venture ended up in bankruptcy court. Items include Michael's gold record for Thriller, handwritten "ABC" lyrics & a signed Victory tour program
2013 - Jackson v AEG Trial Day 20
Katherine and Rebbie Jackson are in court.
The court also heard an update on efforts to get emails and any other records from a computer used by Michael's former manager, Frank Dileo. Apparently an LA attorney has a copy of Dileo's computer hard drive. Attorneys are working to get a copy of the HD to both sides. The copy was revealed during a deposition of Dileo's widow earlier this week in Pennsylvania, plaintiff's attorney Brian Panish said
Paul Gongaware Testimony
Jackson direct
Gongaware said he met with his attorneys again yesterday to refresh his recollection
Panish asked if AEG was concerned about Mr. Jackson's health. "When he was sick we obviously had a concern," Gongaware responded. Gongaware said he understood Michael was sick from reading the chain of emails shown yesterday. But Gongaware told the jury he didn't have any particular concern about Michael Jackson other than on June 19th, no one told Gongaware about being concerned with his health. Gongaware testified that he disagreed with Houghdahl's opinion, saying he had no "particular concern" about Jackson's health and ability to perform
Talking about the email Hougdahl sent saying Michael was deteriorating quickly, Gongaware explained: "I didn't see it the way he saw."
Hougdahl, in response to concerns expressed by Travis Payne about Jackson's weight Email 6/15/09 from Hougdahl to Gongaware :
He needs some cheeseburgers with a bunch of Wisconsin cheesehead bowlers and a couple of brats and beers
"Was he joking around about this situation?" Panish asked Gongaware, referring to Hougdahl. "I think he was," Gongaware replied. "Did you think that was funny?" Panish asked. "I did," Gongaware admitted
Panish asked about indemnity in Gongaware's contract. The exec said indemnity means that someone else is taking on the responsibility. "I haven't read my contract in 12/13 years, I don't know what it says," Gongaware said. Gongaware said he does not know how many pages his employment agreement is. Panish asked if he AEG would cover for Gongaware should they be found guilty. Gongaware said it was his understanding that he wouldn't be personally responsible financially if the jury sided with Jackson family.
Panish: "That means if you did something wrong..."
Gongaware: "They would be responsible. I've been assuming that,"
Adding that depending upon the size of the judgment, AEG could go after him. Panish asked how much AEG would be able to afford, and Gongaware said he didn't know. Panish emphasized there are various ways for AEG to pay a judgment, and Gongaware mentioned they had some sort of cancellation insurance.
Panish went back to discuss the email from Randy Phillips where he wrote 'Dr. Murray didn't need the gig and was unbiased and ethical'
Panish: "Is Mr. Phillips unbiased and ethical, sir?"
Gongaware: "I think he is"
Panish asked if it was ethical for Phillips to represent to Ortega that the doctor is 'extremely successful' and 'we checked everyone out'. Gongaware responded that he didn't know what Phillips knew at the time.
Panish: "Is number one priority 'the show must go on'?"
Gongaware: "I don't know if that's number one"
Panish: "What's number one?"
Gongaware: "Getting it right"
Panish showed the email from John Branca, saying he had the right therapist for Michael and asked if substance abuse was involved. "This is referring to the meeting that was going to happen and I was waiting to see the results of it," Gongaware said. "I didn't believe there was a substance abuse issue," Gongaware testified. "In the entire time I was dealing with him in this tour, I saw it once when he came back from his doctor," Gongaware testified. Gongaware said that was the only time he saw Michael with slurred speech and under the influence of something. Gongaware said he didn't know what Dr. Klein was giving Michael Jackson. When Panish asked Gongaware if he checked Dr. Klein out, he replied: "No, he was Michael's doctor and it was none of my business."
Gongaware said he once observed Michael looking "slow" and possibly intoxicated after a visit to his dermatologist but he didn't believe he had any "serious health problems" even after Jackson appeared weak and disoriented at a June 19 rehearsal. "My observation of Michael Jackson was that he was healthy," Gongaware said. "They had a meeting to discuss (the June 19 incident), and he took a couple days off and he came back strong"
As to insurance issues, Gongaware said he was involved only peripherally. On June 25, Gongaware sent an email saying that if they didn't get sickness coverage in the insurance, they would be dropping the policy. Gongaware said he didn't know why he was pressing for sickness insurance on the day Michael died. Bob Taylor, the insurance broker, wrote back that it was always down to the medical issued from the word go. Regarding Randy Phillips asking for life insurance the day Michael died, Gongaware said he didn't pay much attention to insurance, didn't recall.
The day Michael died, Gongaware said Phillips called him and told him to get over to the house right away, there seems to be a problem. Randy followed the ambulance to UCLA. "The second call was that he informed me that he had died," Gongaware remembered. On June 25, Gongaware said he went to the rehearsal at the Staples Center and talked to Kenny Ortega.
Panish: "Were you sad Mr. Jackson died?"
Gongaware: "Very much so"
"He was a business associate", Gongaware said about Michael. They did not didn't hang out as friends
Panish asked about Phillips' email directing Gongaware to remove thin, skeletal footage of Michael in the red jacket from This Is It documentary. Gongaware testified that he remembered receiving the email. In his deposition played in court, Gongaware said he didn't recall the email.
Panish: "Did you change your testimony?"
Gongaware: "No. I saw the email as part of my preparation"
AEG Live president and co-chief executive Randy Phillips wrote in Aug. 9 email:
Make sure we take out the shots of Michael in that red leather jacket at the sound stage where the mini-movies were being filmed. He looks way too think (sic) and skeletal
Gongaware replied to Phillips, his boss:
ok will have a look when it comes on screen
Gongaware said he didn't try to control any of the messages about Michael after his death to reflect he was fully engaged in rehearsals. Panish asked about an email from Gongaware okay'ing the band, singers and dancer to give interviews but asked them to keep it positive
In another email July 9, 2009, email to music coordinator JoAnn Tominaga, Gongaware wrote:
We are ok with the band, singers and dancers doing interviews now. The only thing we ask is that they keep it positive and stress that Michael was active, engaged and not the emaciated person some want to paint him as being.
Answering questions from Jackson family attorney Brian Panish, Gongaware said he was not trying to control the film's message.
Panish: "You're telling them what not to say, aren't you sir?"
Gongaware. "I'm asking them to keep it positive and not say he was emaciated"
Panish: "So you were controlling the message as a producer of that documentary"
Gongaware: "I don't think so"
Gongaware's testimony again emphasized the contrast between the answers he gave during his deposition under oath in December 2012 and his responses in the courtroom. In testimony, he agreed that Phillips meant "thin" in his email, instead of the word he typed, 'think'. Asked during the deposition what Phillips meant, he replied, "I don't know what he meant"
Gongaware said nothing was taken out of the documentary, which included rehearsals for the scheduled 50 concerts in London. Gongaware promised in a follow-up email to Phillips that he'd "have a look," but he testified that he never dumped any footage. "We didn't keep anything out based on what Randy wrote," Gogaware told jurors. Gongaware testified that he did not know why Phillips would ask that.
Gongaware said there were 15,000 tickets per show, $1.5 million in tickets per show, $47 million for all 31 shows. Tickets were selling at lightening fast, Gongaware said. "As fast as the system can sell.". The tickets were sold in March, Gongaware said. It was held by the arena, AEG had control of the money. Gongaware said merchandising was another way of making money. The building, which is owned by AEG, would keep the revenue of beverage sold. Gongaware said the beverage money would offset the arena rent, which Michael would not have to pay.
Gongaware: "His (MJ) potential was great"
Panish: "Unlimited ceilings?"
Gongaware: "If he was willing to work that hard, he would've done well"
Before lunch, Panish asked Gongaware whether This Is It was intended to be a multi-city tour. Gongaware said no, it was just going to be the 50 shows at London's O2 arena. "The only thing we knew was 50 shows in London. Michael had not agreed to anything else," Gongaware explained
Panish asked Gongaware by the time the show was sold out, how many people were in the queue to buy tickets. "250,000 people were still in the queue, which would be enough to sell another 50 shows," Gongaware answered. During Murray's trial, Gongaware testified that 250k people still wanted tickets. He told that jury This Is It would be a multi-city tour.
Panish: "Did you tell the truth when you testified in this case, sir?"
Gongaware: "Yes"
Panish then concluded his questioning of Gongaware.
AEG cross
AEG's attorney, Marvin Putnam, did the questioning of Gongaware on behalf of the defendants.

Putnam: "Have you ever been sued personally for the wrongful death of anyone?"
Gongaware: "No"
Putnam: "How are you feeling?"
Gongaware: "It's difficult, it's very stressful"
Putnam: "Are you nervous?"
Gongaware: "Yes"
Putnam asked about Gongaware's memory and he said it's okay
Putnam asked Gongaware about some of the emails shown to jurors yesterday. Putnam was trying to show that not all the contents of the emails had been shown to jury. Some email addresses had been redacted. Attorney Brian Panish objected to the redactions, and got testy with the judge. It prompted another lengthy sidebar. When attorneys returned from the judge's chambers, Putnam resumed questioning Gongaware about emails sent to his private account
Putnam said Gongaware handed over more than 13,000 emails in discovery from the This Is It period
Putnam inquired about Gongaware's Kazoodi personal email account. On 6/20/09, the chain of emails with "Trouble at the Front" was sent there. Gongaware said he didn't remember receiving this email. Gongaware said he had more than one "Kazoodi" email account. He said he was not using the account the email was sent to on 6/20. "The account was closed at the time." Putnam presented Gongaware a document that indicated the private email account had been closed at the time. Gongaware said he never denied it was sent. Gongaware claimed yesterday was the first time he saw this chain of emails. Putnam used the closed email account to try to show Gongaware's testimony was truthful
Putnam: "Why could you not recall e-mails?"
Gongaware: "I had not reviewed them and had not seen them in years,"
Some of the e-mails were new to him because he was so busy putting Jackson's tour together that he never read them, he said. Gongaware said he was receiving hundreds of email a day at the height of 2008/09 tour preparation. "Mostly, it was just a time factor if it was something that didn't have to do with me"
Gongaware said he doesn't have an office at AEG, and that he works on his own projects. He has an office at his house. Gongaware is the Co-CEO of AEG Live Concerts West with John Meglen. He said he was the co-founder of the company. Phillips is AEG Live CEO
Gongaware explained be has been testifying about what he could recall. If he didn't remember, he said he told the jury he couldn't recall. Gongaware testified he looked at the emails after his deposition because he wanted to put everything together and see the bigger picture. Putnam: "Did you try to give your best testimony?" Gongaware: "Yes, I did"
Regarding the phone call between Gongaware and Dr. Murray where the doctor asked about $5 million, Gongaware said he remembers that call. The next call between the two, it was the $150,000 call, where Gongaware offered the doctor $150k. Gongaware said those were the only two calls he had with Dr. Murray
Gongaware said the 1st time he met Dr. Murray was a meeting at Michael's Carolwood house. He said MJ, Kenny, Randy, Frank & Dr Murray were present. Gongaware recalled the other meeting with Dr. Murray was an encounter with him at The Forum. He remembers saying hello to him. Gongaware said he's sure he didn't meet with Dr. Murray other than on those two occasions
Gongaware said he promoted couple of shows/dances in college. He graduated in '69 from Waynesboro College in Pennsylvania in Accounting. He worked for Arthur Andersen in NYC after college as auditor. He said one needed two years of experience in order to get CPA license. The company ended up shutting down after being involved in the Enron scandal, Gongaware explained. He said there's a continuing education requirement in order to maintain his CPA license, but he hasn't kept current. "I didn't like that work," Gongaware said about leaving the practice. "I wanted to do things and not just be an accountant." Gongaware said he ski bummed for a winter and would do bookkeeping to pay for his lodge.
His first big show was in Colorado -- he got The Grateful Dead to perform at Folsom Field in Boulder, Colo. He said he didn't know the band or any of its managers, but asked them to come to Colorado. They did, and the show was a hit. "The concert was sold out", Gongaware said, and he became an independent promoter. Around 1975, he met Terry Bassett who worked at Concerts West and Gongaware went to work for them in their Seattle office. He worked for them for about 10 years. Gongaware said he went to work for the company because the money was steady. At Concerts West, Gongaware worked with Bad Company, Led Zeppelin, Beach Boys, Chicago, Eric Clapton, among others. This Concerts West is not the same; he is the currently the co-CEO. Gongaware left Seattle and came to LA to work at Concerts West. He then went to Warner Miller Films. The company did primarily ski movies. Jerry Weintraub was Elvis' promoter and Concerts West assigned him to work with Colonel Parker, Elvis' manager.
Gongaware was in his 20s when he worked with Elvis. He said when they'd announce an Elvis concert, there would be lines at the box office for 4 days. Gongaware said Colonel would buy ads on every radio station and promote the show. When tickets went on sale, Gongaware was to report to Colonel every hour regarding the ticket sales.
Elvis Presley's death became a controversy at this trial as the man (Gongaware) who promoted both artists' last tours testified. He testified yesterday that Presley died of a drug overdose, but when his own lawyer questioned him today he changed his testimony to say Elvis died of a heart ailment. Presley collapsed in the bathroom of his Memphis, Tennessee, mansion, Graceland, on August 16, 1977, at the age of 42. While his death was ruled the result of an irregular heartbeat, the autopsy report was sealed amid accusations that abuse of prescription drugs caused the problem. How Presley died is relevant because Jackson lawyers argue Gongaware's experience as Elvis's promoter should have made him more aware of drug abuse by artists, including Michael Jackson.
Although he worked advance promotion on Elvis Presley's last tours -- under the direction of Presley manager Colonel Tom Parker -- Gongaware testified he never met Presley.
Putnam:"Did you understand he had a problem with drugs?"
Gongaware: "I understood that later. There was a period of time when we didn't work. I didn't understand at the time, but I learned that it was a drug problem and the Colonel said he couldn't work."
Around 1992, Gongaware went to work on the Dangerous tour with Michael. This was his first time working with Michael Jackson. He worked with the Jacksons in 2000 but he remembered working on a tour with the Jacksons prior to 92 and said Michael was part of the group. "I was the tour manager, handled the logistics and travel for the B party," Gongaware said, adding he worked for Michael but not for A party.
  • A party - artist
  • B party - band and administration
  • C party - crew
  • D party - documentary people.
Gongaware said there were several legs on the Dangerous tour. It was a worldwide tour. He never met Michael on that tour, saw him on stage a few times
The first time Gongaware met Michael was in Las Vegas when he was visiting Colonel Parker. Steve Wynn's brother called and said Michael wanted to meet Colonel. Gongaware stayed and met him

Putnam: "Were there any doctors in that tour?"
Gongaware: "Yes, two"
Gongaware said Dr. Forecast was Michael's personal doctor. He didn't think Dr. Forecast treated anyone else, so they had Dr. Finkelstein also. Dr. Finkelstein, a general practitioner, was in the B party. They went to places where they didn't know the quality of local healthcare. Gongaware explained Dr. Finkelstein treated B, C and D parties. Gongaware said he did not see any doctor treat Michael. Dr. Finkelstein told Gongaware he treated Michael twice. Dr. Forecast wasn't in Bangkok yet, so Dr. Finkelstein treated him when he needed.
"The King of Thailand said Michael would have to do the second show because his friends were attending", Gongaware recalled.
Gongaware said the King put armed guards outside their doors to make sure they didn't leave

Putnam: "During the Dangerous tour, had you come to have an understating that Michael had a problem with drugs or painkillers?"
Gongaware: "No, he Dangerous tour in 93 was cut short in Mexico City"
Gongaware said. He learned it had to do with drug addiction because Michael announced it. Putnam played the audio with Michael's statement:
"My friends and doctors advised me to seek professional guidance immediately in order to eliminate what has become an addition. It is time for me to acknowledge my need for treatment"
On Jun 25, 2009 Gabriel Sutter (a tech guy) wrote Gongaware a condolences email. "It was such an incredible shock to go through that experience," Gongaware explained. Gongaware's response on July 5, 2009:
I was working on the Elvis tour when he died so I kind of knew what to expect
"You have all these people out of work," Gongaware explained. "With Elvis some were without jobs permanently." Under questioning from Putnam, Gongaware said he didn't mean that he expected Jackson to die like Elvis. He was referring to the trauma of people losing their jobs because a tour is canceled and the estate taking over the legacy, he said.
Putnam: "When you wrote the email, did you expect Michael to die?"
Gongaware: "No, not all"
Putnam: "Did you ever consider the idea Michael would die?"
Gongaware: "No"
Here's what Gongaware had to say about the role of the estate after Elvis died (and what he expected after Jackson's death.):
"Then the estate takes over, and everything's different. You have nothing to say about anything"
When one of his friends asked about his plans after Michael's death, Gongaware replied he was "trying to recover our losses from the show"
"Michael died of overdose of Propofol. He didn't die of being sick or malnutrition", Gongaware said. He said that he had no idea of what Propofol was. "I had no idea" Jackson was using propofol in the weeks before his death, Gongaware testified
Gongaware said he worked on Michael's memorial service. He was in charge of the tickets and worked closely with the family. He said he didn't charge for his work.
Putnam: "Why did you work at the memorial service?"
Gongaware: "It was the right thing to do"

2023.05.30 13:02 blessedbelly I finally got to curse out the man who fired me for calling my gf when she thought someone was breaking into our apartment.

I used to work at a popular south eastern gas station. They paid great, but the management was awful. They had cameras with microphones in the break room, we weren’t allowed to take our breaks anywhere but the break room, phones were strictly forbidden, and one manager loved to harass me during each shift. We’ll call him Matt. Matt loves to micromanage people. So much so that he lost a managerial position at a new gas station they were opening and was demoted to an assistant manager position because of the way he treats his employees.
Shortly after we moved into a new apartment, my gf called and texted me during a shift telling me someone was banging on our door trying to break in. I saw her text on my smart watch, and rushed outside to call her and make sure everything was okay.
She told me that they stopped banging on the door and left, so I told her to let me know if anything else happened, and went back to work. This call lasted 2 minutes max.
First, my warehouse manager came up to me, (we’ll call him daydrinker) telling me he had to report me for using my phone during my shift. I explained the situation to him, and told him I was scared for the safety of my gf. Daydrinker still reported me to Matt.
Matt called me into a conference room and began to berate me for using my smartwatch during a shift, telling me that he was going to report me to the district manager, and that I better watch what I say because my job was on the line, and there were microphones recording the conversation. He said all of this with a smart watch on his wrist. I explained the whole situation to him, and that it was an emergency. This didn’t help. He still threatened to report me to the district manager. I said, “Matt, you understand that I’m an adult with obligations outside of work, right? There’s a fundamental human aspect to this situation that I feel is being ignored.” This set him off. He quoted the employee rule book, called me a bad employee, and then fired me. I held my tongue to maintain some sense of dignity.
After that day though, I vowed to spit on the ground in front of him if I ever saw him again.
Fast forward a year. My gf and I stopped by the same gas station to fuel up, and went inside for some food (this gas station is so large that they have over 200 fuel pumps and a big barbecue restaurant inside). Lo and behold, I locked eyes with Matt when we walked in.
I decided against spitting on the ground, and just shot him a middle finger. He immediately walked over and I greeted him saying “Hello Matthew, you piece of shit.” He said “Uh-uh, you gotta get out of here.” I respectfully complied, but as he walked me out, I kept a safe distance to show him I had no violent intentions, but I kept insulting him, saying, “Remember when you fired me for calling my girlfriend in an emergency you asshole? Fuck you, piece of shit.”
I walked back to my car, and waited for my gf to finish up feeling very satisfied that I’d finally gotten a chance to tell him off. As we were leaving, I see Matt searching for me in the parking lot. He finds me, and flags down a police officer. Cop asked what happened. I explained the situation from a year ago, he said, give me one minute while I go run your ID. During that time, Matt tells me “They’re gonna take you in for trespassing, you’re banned from this gas station for life.” I laughed in his face. Cop came back and said, “Sir, we’re gonna ask that you never come back to this gas station again, or we’ll have to arrest you for trespassing. Other than that, you’re free to go.” I took one last chance to laugh at Matt, and then we left.
He stared me down as we pulled out of the parking lot, the whole time I was pointing and laughing at him from inside the car.
I try to keep from acting like this, especially in public, because I am generally an easy going and non-confrontational person. This time though, after all the BS that that micromanaging asshole put me through, including screaming at me in front of every other manager during a meeting for not wearing a glove while cutting a box with a safety cutter, I had to give him an earful.
TLDR: I got banned from a gas station for cursing at the manager who fired me for calling my gf during an emergency. Fuck you “Matt”

2023.05.30 12:52 ThrowRA_hoshi I [22F] don’t know how to handle my obsessive friend [21M]

I’ll refer to him as Sam. So basically Sam and I are in the same tight-knit discord server where we play games together and hang out in VC pretty often (almost everyday). We formed this server last summer but I didn’t get close to Sam until a few months ago.
I had a crush on Sam and I liked him a lot, but recently I’ve been unable to overlook the things about him that bother me so my feelings for him have died. And since I no longer have feelings for him the amount of time he wants to spend with me is really overwhelming me since I’m quite the introvert and I just want to have the same relationship with him that I have with my other friends in our group.
Recently though Sam has been asking more and more questions about my personal life, and I’ve been answering them because I’m a very private person so I figured it’d be a good thing to push myself to be more open with people. And also I thought he would chill out with the personal questions once I answered them (dumb I know). And even though him having all this info about me was making me more and more uncomfortable, I ignored my feelings and figured I would just become more comfortable as time passed. But then a few days ago, even though I had already given him some pretty private information about me earlier that week, he ended up asking for something else and it sent me over the edge.
So I told him pointblank that I’m not looking for a romantic relationship or a super close friendship and that I would rather us be casual gaming friends. I also told him how him having so much of my private info made me uncomfortable, and he asked if we could talk more about this situation tomorrow (which I agreed to). But then the next day he sent me this extremely long message asking if things could go back to the way they were before and profusely apologizing and talking about all the things we do together that he didn’t want to lose. And I didn’t know how to respond because the thing is I want to STOP doing all those things that we do together because I find it suffocating and draining. And also I was just so freaked out by the essay he sent me, and I was still creeped out about that question he asked me. So I told him that I needed space and that I would reach out to him when I was ready. Because the previous day he kept sending me more messages because I wasn’t responding fast enough, so I figured I just needed to tell him to relax. And I also wanted to give myself time for my feelings about this situation to settle.
He agreed to give me time but then literally the next day is messaging me again. And asking me questions but then deleting them when I don’t respond. And then last night he sent me an even longer essay talking about how this (us not really talking for 2-3 days) has been killing him and he hates himself for everything bad he’s done to me and how he thinks I’m perfect and doesn’t want to lose me and just wants me to talk to him even if it’s to insult him.
So I don’t know the best way to handle this situation. Because I don’t want to crush him but I also don’t want to completely ignore my own feelings. I really don’t want things to go back to the way they were before, I would much much rather us just have the same relationship that I do with our other friends in the server (aka no private dm’s or hours-long one on one voice calls, and not doing literally every activity together in the MMO that we all play). But I guess it just feels wrong responding to him borderline having a mental breakdown with “let’s just be casual friends :)”. How do I respond to him?
TL;DR: I’ve slowly been getting more and more overwhelmed and uncomfortable with my friend and the invasive questions he asks, and a couple days ago he asked me a question that sent me over the edge. I asked him for space but he’s been sending me longer and longer messages desperately begging for me to talk to him and for things to go back to the way they were before. How do I respond to him?

2023.05.30 12:52 gingergargle Where are the shitty gas stations?

I used to go to one where I would prepay $20, but after it stops, I didn't let go of the handle, but them shake the hose a bit. After about 3min of doing that, I had roughly a free 2oz of gas.
Most places have fixed the issues, but there are still some unicorns out there. So lemme know your shitty gas stations!!

2023.05.30 11:55 Evefblog Zunyi Aluminum Industry plans to build a 350KA foundry workshop technology upgrading project

Zunyi Aluminum intends to build a 350KA foundry workshop technical upgrading project, and the project is currently in the stage of publicizing the approval opinions of the environmental impact assessment document (report).
This reconstruction is carried out in the original project factory area, without additional land occupation. The main construction contents include: the removal of 2 electric heating furnaces and 2 aluminum ingot casting machines in the existing 350KA electrolytic series foundry building (3366m2), and the transformation into 2 sets of 75 tons of high-efficiency gas melting furnace and a 75-ton hydraulic semi-continuous casting machine, and supporting electromagnetic stirring device, holding furnace, aluminum melt online processing system, sawing machine, aluminum slag processing device, dust removal system, etc.; in the existing foundry building A 270m2 aluminum slag treatment room will be built inside; a 153m2 electric control room and a 144m2 liquid argon gasification station will be built outside the existing foundry building; laboratories, circulating water pump stations, solid waste and hazardous waste storage and other supporting facilities will rely on the original project.
The production line of this project uses the purchased scrap aluminum (73,000 tons/year) as the raw material, and the scrap aluminum is sent together with the electrolytic aluminum liquid (28,000 tons/year) produced by the original project and the returned materials from the treatment of aluminum slag after batching. The smelting furnace is smelted, and the smelting furnace uses natural gas as fuel, and auxiliary materials such as slag breaking agent are added during the smelting process. The smelted molten aluminum is sent to the holding furnace to complete the composition adjustment and refining of the molten aluminum by adding alloy rods, argon, and refining agents. The adjusted qualified aluminum alloy liquid is introduced into the mold of the chain ingot casting machine. After the aluminum liquid is filled with the mold, it is cooled by direct contact with circulating cooling water to obtain the product. The waste slag produced in the smelting process is recovered by ball milling and sieving, and the recovered metal aluminum is used as a return material to the smelting furnace.
The project will add 100,000 tons of deformed aluminum and aluminum alloy production capacity. The production capacity of 110,000 tons of aluminum alloy remains unchanged, and the production capacity of electrolytic aluminum of the original project of 360,000 tons is reduced to 222,000 tons per year.

2023.05.30 11:52 Outside-Tie-2851 Question about putting an electric backup small motor on a Bowrider

Little info, just bought a 17' 2005 Glastron MX 175 from a marina in Buffalo. Died on me in the water though near Dunkirk and had to call coast guard as tow boat us does not go out there. Thankfully some1 helped while Coast Guard was in route but still was stranded for like 5+ hours... Anyways ... I never want this to happen again. I was thinking of installing a small battery powered motor. Does anyone know a good electric motor to use? Looking for something with a good price and will work at least 5-10 miles off shore if this ever happened again. I do not want to use a gas one, as it seems like I would need a separate gas tank, or would have to tear into the boat to use existing one. Something lithium, not lead acid, that I can recharge at home and I can take with me when I go out. Can anyone point me in the right direction as well as a good guide to mounting it. Would like it to be useful for a full load emergency, lets say total weight 3,500 lbs so I guess 70 lbs of thrust. 55 lbs might be enough though. Also would a hand cranked trolling one be feasible as well? How long would that take at 5 miles offshore? The 1 ore I had that day was useless so not sure...

2023.05.30 11:42 Current_Regret_149 mixing station in combination with my X32 and X-touch config

Hi all, I am looking into mixing station in combination with my X32 and X-touch over ethernet. There are a lot of buttons on the X touch that are not active in the default setup. Are there any users here willing to share their midi controller setup for the X touch?
I find assigning the knobs to specific functions a bit of a hassle to be honest in mixing station.
I've spend hours trying to assign the rotary encoders of the x touch to set the low-cut freq. of a channel. Kind of got it working, but the display in the scribble strip keeps on showing 'Gain', althought the freq is now changeable.
Does anyone has a working setup for this combination?
would be greatly appreceated

2023.05.30 11:37 Flashy-Difficulty257 I inhaled what I believe is chlorine gas am I going to die?

I 18f inhaled what I believe is chlorine gas am I going to die?
Around 10 hours ago I was cleaning something and it wasn't coming clean so I put bleach Pine-Sol and apple cider vinegar inside of the thing that wouldn't come clean it was also pretty hot because I had hot water running my door was also closed so I was trapped in the room with the smell.
I think I was in there for around 5:00 or 10 minutes before my nose started getting irritated and I needed to go get some air I got there went back in for about a minute or so until I realized that this is too much and decided to go and get some fresh air. I use Google to figure out what was going on and it says that I might have inhaled chlorine gas I looked at the symptoms and they said that if I was in there for 30 minutes then I would probably be dead right now. Unfortunately my mom doesn't really think that this seems to be a pretty big issue I however do.
I called the poison hotline explain the situation and they said just wait a few hours I believe it's been over either 10 or 11 I decided to take Tylenol to help with the pain of a headache that I have but unfortunately the headache seems to have come back. My symptoms earlier were losing some of my hearing (it's come back) having a massive headache and being able to smell everything I still can by the way. I was just wondering if I should or can go to sleep I have a school thing to go to and I also really really don't want to die. Also did I even inhale chlorine gas the amount of bleach I put in wasn't really a lot it was a little bit and a big gallon bottle the pine saw was already in the thing that I was cleaning and then I googled apple cider vinegar saying if it would help.
Anything helps please I really don't want to die and I also want to get some sleep.

2023.05.30 11:37 shobankr Campervan Reykjavik aka Europcar review - Avoid if possible

We did a 10-day ring road trip from May 13th to 23rd and I booked a motorhome with Campervan Reykjavik. A few days before the trip, I received an email to pick up the motorhome from Europcar! (if I had known that the motorhome is from Europcar, I would have not booked it).
Overall the experience was good and customer service was quick enough to sort out the issues (comes later) but I would not book another camotorhome from them.
  1. We asked for two child seats and they were really old, torn and all internal cushions visible. It looked very unsafe.
  2. They asked us to leave the great water valve open as there is some problem with the pipe.
  3. Two days into the trip, some strange noise started coming from the rear wheel. 24-hour breakdown service had no info about motorhomes so had to call the next day. A visit to the mechanic cost us half a day.
  4. A few days into the trip, the gas detector started making strange high pitch noises and jumped between (Alarm and some other mode). After a few more calls to customer care, they informed me that it may be a malfunction so remove the detector.
  5. The clean water tank had some strange leak that was constantly leaking water and we had to refill it every few days even though we did not use it.
  6. The heating did not work and felt cold most of the time.
  7. No rearview camera, later we realized there are better vehicles from other providers for the same price.
Overall, the experience was good but I please avoid if possible.
