2023.05.30 13:56 Dunkman83 question about the town
forgive me if this was posted before.
ok so we all know, if u keep driving straight on the road, u will eventually pop out the other side of town and just keep driving in a loop.. gotcha.
but does that happen if u keep walking thru the forest? it doesnt seem so, boyd was walking for over a day and didnt loop back around, he also keep discovering new terrain.
also, victor shows angry dude the field with all the cars, he said they are even more over the hill, but they were already there..
it seems that traveling on the road is a pretty short distance before u loop around (feels like 3-5 miles tops). but the forest seems to have way more depth to it.

2023.05.30 13:55 harryjake83 Update: NR200P Max 4080/13600K Temperature Optimisation
Hey everyone!
Thought I'd post a quick update since
my last post detailing the outcomes of a few adjustments I've made over the last two days.
Overall I'm thrilled at the progress I've been able to make reducing internal temperatures, and I've had so much fun researching and tweaking various build configurations!
The adjustments I made were relatively simple, but I wanted to detail my findings in case other are considering similar changes!
Basic Build Details
- NR200P Max (stock AIO and PSU)
- 4080 FE
- 13600K
- 2x Noctua NF-A12s on the bottom panel
- Tempered glass side panel
- No undervolts/overclocks
Fans
I swapped out the stock SickleFlow AIO fans for Noctua NF-A14s, and although these did not make much of a noticeable difference to internal temps (at least without tweaking fan curves), they definitely run quieter (and have alleviated the low ticking noise I used to get at higher RPMs on the stock fans).
I also set three custom fan curves using FanControl:
- GPU curve: Assigned to the GPU fans. I used this to enforce a zero RPM mode for my 4080, and a slightly less aggressive fan curve to reduce noise under load.
- Case fan curve: Assigned to the slim Noctua NF-A12s, based off GPU temps. Conservative, again prioritising low noise. Idling at 20%, and capped at 70% at max, configured to run between 30-45% at typical load.
- Mixed curve: Assigned to the Noctua NF-A14s (AIO fans), based off both CPU and GPU temps (the higher temperature of the two dictating fan behaviour). Conservative, again prioritising low noise. Idling at 20%, and capped at 70%, configured to run between 30-40% at typical load. +10% offset applied to the NF-A14s after further testing, as it seemed capable of running a tad faster with virtually no noticeable noise difference.
Contact Frame
I also swapped out the stock ILM for a Thermalright contact frame, which immediately improved my CPU temps. Just prior to installing the contact frame, my 13600K peaked out at a package temp of 99 after 10mins of Cinebench R23.
I let the system cool down a bit, installed the contact frame, and ran the same test again - and this time the CPU package temp peaked at 90 after 10mins, which I was very happy with.
This was probably single biggest change I was able to make to internal temperatures. Airflow
I also experimented with top intake/bottom exhaust, double exhaust, and top exhaust/bottom intake.
I found that the top exhaust/bottom intake configuration was the best for GPU temps when using the tempered glass panel, and the increase in CPU temps was minimal compared to the double exhaust configuration.
This configuration paired with my custom fan curves dropped my average GPU temps under gaming load around 5-8 degrees compared to the double exhaust configuration, depending on the game. Top intake/bottom exhaust yielded worse temps for both the CPU and the GPU compared to the top exhaust/bottom intake configuration.
Cable Management
I spent a while tightening up the cables around the motherboard/PSU and behind the GPU, which (anecdotally, admittedly) seems to have made around a 2-3 degree impact to my GPU temps.
Although this may be somewhat of a placebo effect, I'm thinking there was a chance that my previous mess of cables may have obstructed airflow inside the case, and tidying this up has allowed me to cool down the GPU more efficiently. Even if this wasn't the case, it's definitely a damn sight better to look at now!
Temps Under Gaming Load
Cyberpunk running at 4K with DLSS and Path Tracing RT used to run the GPU up to 75-77, and the CPU up to 73-75. It now runs at around 61-65 degrees on both the CPU and the GPU - much cooler than previously and significantly quieter! The PC is on my desk about 1.5ft away from me, and I can only hear it if I pause the game and listen out for noise in the silence.
Horizon Zero Dawn and God of War (running at 4K Native and maxed settings) hit at a similar low to mid 60s for both the GPU and CPU.
Spider-Man: Miles Morales at 4K with RT and DLSS now runs at 58-62 GPU and 60-65 CPU.
Overwatch 2 at 4K and maxed settings hits 48-51 GPU and 57-60 CPU, and runs dead silent.
Closing Thoughts
Overall I'm very happy with the above - I was able to drop temps significantly compared to my previous post, and configure a much quieter system at the same time.
I'm currently researching undervolting for both the 13600K and the 4080 - though for now I'm happy enough with my current load temps that I won't be rushing into this any time soon.
In the meantime, I'd be very happy to answer any questions anyone might have, and would also appreciate any further thoughts and advice from the community regarding the aforementioned adjustments.
Thank you for reading, and to the SFFPC community, thank you for all the guidance you've provided over the last months as I researched, assembled, and tweaked my first PC build!

2023.05.30 13:55 avalancharian Kratom / caffeine withdrawal help
I was on kratom and caffeine for a good 3-4 months consistently. And before that I was still dosing a lot. I was doing both at first to feel the mood uplift and motivation but they both became very habitual and began to sink into a malaise every day.
I decided to remove both from my daily use completely about 1.5 months ago. It was very difficult at first but I stuck with the acute withdrawal phase.
Now, I’m feeling like my insides are moving at a million miles per hour. Maybe it’s adrenals? Or nervous system issues? I feel like mentally and energetically I’m putting the breaks on a high speed train operating on the physical. It’s deeply uncomfortable. Sometimes I think I’m looking for something to sedate the physical but also noticing that maybe that’s not the issue, it’s the negative thoughts and emotions that I’m afraid of acting within. Mostly things like fear driving my cleaning for example. Like someone is pushing me out of threats rather than encouragement and kindness.
I suppose this is anxiety though I haven’t been aware of this before the addiction I had.
Anyone have suggestions for herbs that may help?

2023.05.30 13:54 cdrobick Hamstring help, maybe quads?
This may be a bit long but I'm hoping for some advice. I don't feel as though my hamstrings are tight. I can be flat footed, or nearly, depending on the day, in down dog comfortably, and I don't feel as though I'm pushing. I've eased back in seated forward fold and down dog, bending the knees a bit in case I'm overstretching. The quad stretch, when you start in tabletop, stretch one leg back and arm forward, then reach back to grab the foot?? I've been practicing very consistently for over a year, and no matter what I get an instant, very intense pain right in the middle of the hamstring when I try. Both legs. I thought it must be my form, but my instructor said the form was fine. (I didn't ask her this question, I don't know why lol.) I've been consciously trying to stretch the strings properly, but I almost feel as my hamstrings are more tight in the mornings now, so I feel like I'm doing something improperly. Any thoughts?
I do know my legs aren't as strong as they used to be, I had a massive surgery last year and am still rebuilding strength. I also ride a bike, around two to five miles a day, and that's been recent since the weather broke a bit. It doesn't impede me on any other way that I notice.

2023.05.30 13:54 LiamIsMyNameOk Need advice of requesting holiday pay, after leaving without notice (due to drunken boss)
I'm sorry if this has been asked before.
My question is, am I entitled to the holiday pay I am owed? More detailed below.
I had only been working in this establishment for about 3 months. 30 hour contract but worked 45+ a week. In Spain.
I walked out one night when the owner, whom often frequents the place, arrived drunk (as often does) and went behind the bar pouring drinks and verbally abusing us telling us how sh*t and slow we are. ...Which the staff on shift definitely weren't, they were doing great. He clearly just wanted to assert himself as important, or get his anger out, I don't know.
I warned him I would walk out right at that moment if he continued. He called me a c*nt, mumbled some other stuff which was unintelligeble, so I left.
I have no proof of that interaction, though. But other members of staff left recently due to similar interactions.
I have asked for my holiday pay, he is saying he has to talk to his gestor (Like, an accountant) because he thinks he doesnt have to pay anything due to me walking out mid-shift and not giving a 14 day notice.
This was on a Sunday night. I had already done my contracted hours.
The barestaurant is a bit sketchy. Half of the drinks money doesnt get put through the computer system so the owner doesn't have to pay tax on it. There are cockroaches all the time. Scrubbing off expiration dates on bottled soft drinks. Kitchen wouldnt pass an inspection etc etc. Many many issues.
.
My question is, am I right in believing the 14 day notice is purely out of respect, not a legal thing? I'm sure he doesn't want legal attention, so I doubt he would take me to court over "lost profits" as I walked out at 9pm on a sunday night when I was meant to stay until ~1am. So as I believe, he could just draw attention to that, which would not hold up whatsoever.
Which also brings attention to another question I have. He arrived after a night out, drunk, and went behind the bar pouring drinks, and drinking beer (While verbally abusing the other staff).... Is that legal? Like... Is the owner allowed to just go help himself to bottles and stuff, whilst the bar is serving clientelle? In Spain.
I ask half for myself, but mostly for a girl I worked with who worked there 2 years, and thinks she isn't entitled to two years worth of holiday pay because she walked out without notice.

2022’s driving miles were a disappointment with ethanol demand in the United States bumping up against its 10% blend wall. Talk of E-15 has proponents excited about the potential in 2023. Mostly overlooked in the push for these incremental changes in the United States is the leap forward ethanol has made in India.
On February 6, the government began its push toward 20% petrol blended. There is currently a 10% mandate, and the government intends to double this by 2025. The initial 20% roll-out is two months ahead of schedule.
India has gone from 1.5% in 2014 to 10% at the end of 2022. It will implement 20% nationwide in phases to be completed by 2025. This will be a full five years ahead of the initial target of 2030.
In the coming months, E-20 will be available from three state-owned fuel retailers across 15 cities, 84 petrol pumps, and 11 states.
Ethanol is primarily produced from sugar cane and to a lesser extent from other agricultural produce such as broken rice.

2023.05.30 13:53 LindseyNoelle23 How to buy STAMPS?
First, you’re going to need a Bitcoin wallet that’s compatible with Counterparty. Free Wallet is the most popular Counterparty wallet that’s compatible with STAMPS. And Hirowalle is going the extra mile to incorporate STAMPS too.
(Avoid using Taproot compatible addresses. Those that start with bc1p. They’re still not compatible: you’ll be able to send funds, but you won’t receive the asset)
Next, you want to find the dispenser address that holds the STAMP you want to collect. Dispensers are like vending machines, where you send your BTC and get your NFT delivered.
How can you find “official” dispensers?
http://Rarestamp.xyz is gradually becoming the OpenSea of STAMPs. The most reliable source for authentic STAMP art.
Follow the yellow brick road to the right dispenser address. Then it’s just a matter of sending the right amount of BTC to the address, and waiting until your transaction is processed. FreeWallet and Hiro wallet can help you with tx cost estimations.

2023.05.30 13:51 No_Cow1 4 Reasons to buy Netflix stock, and 1 reason to sell
Is the volatile streaming media stock finally worth buying?
Netflix (NFLX 5.54%) has taken investors on a wild ride over the past two years. The streaming media giant's shares surged during the buying frenzy in growth stocks and closed at an all-time high of $691.69 on Nov. 17, 2021.
However, Netflix's stock plummeted to a multiyear low of $164.28 on June 14, 2022, as its growth decelerated, it lost subscribers for the first time in over a decade, and rising interest rates deflated its valuations. But after sinking to that nadir, Netflix's stock more than doubled to about $380 over the past year.
Is it finally safe to buy Netflix's stock after those massive price swings? Let's see four reasons to buy Netflix and one reason to sell it -- to see whether it's still a good investment.
1. Netflix's stabilizing growth rates
When Netflix lost paid subscribers in the second quarter of 2022, it finally admitted that it was facing stiff competition from other streaming media platforms. That warning convinced the bears that Netflix's high-growth days were over, and its growth would stall out as fierce competitors like Disney, Amazon, Warner Bros. Discovery, and Paramount carved up the market. But if we look at Netflix's growth over the past year, we'll see it actually gained subscribers again, and its revenue growth stabilized.
That stabilization can be attributed to three factors. First, it lapped its pandemic-induced growth spurt in 2020 and a post-pandemic slowdown in 2021. Second, it overcame the initial shock from Russia's invasion of Ukraine (which drove its loss of subscribers in the second quarter of 2022) over the following three quarters.
Lastly, it attracted new viewers with original hit shows like You, Outer Banks, and Ginny & Georgia, proving it could continue expanding without relying on established franchises.
2. The expansion of its advertising business
Netflix has traditionally generated most of its revenues by charging subscription fees for ad-free programming. But that changed last November when it launched its cheaper ad-supported tier across a dozen markets.
This ad-supported tier could help Netflix attract more budget-conscious consumers while widening its moat against similar ad-supported tiers at Disney+, WBD's HBO Max, and Paramount+. It could also attract more advertisers and diversify its top line away from its ad-free subscription fees.
Netflix hasn't disclosed any revenue figures from its new ad-supported tier yet, but it recently revealed it had nearly five million monthly active users. That would only account for about 2% of its paid subscribers, but that ratio could climb as Netflix launches the tier in additional markets.
Based on eMarketer's projections, ad spending on connected TV (CTV) ads in the U.S. could more than double from $21.2 billion in 2022 to $43.6 billion in 2026 -- and Netflix will likely benefit from that secular boom.
3. Its crackdown on shared passwords
For years, Netflix looked the other way toward password sharers. But this year, it finally cracked down on the practice by charging extra fees for shared passwords. In its April shareholder letter, Netflix said it was "pleased with the results" of its crackdown across Canada, New Zealand, Portugal, and Spain. It also noted that after that crackdown, its subscriber base in Canada was "growing faster" than its audience in the U.S. -- where it finally initiated its crackdown in late May.
That move might initially infuriate some of its longtime subscribers, but it could stabilize its long-term growth by boosting its revenues per household. Some of those password sharers might also shift toward its cheaper ad-supported tier.
4. It's stabilizing operating margins
Netflix's investments in new content and currency headwinds have squeezed its operating margins over the past year. However, it also expects its operating margin to expand from 18% in 2022 to 18%-20% in 2023 as its revenue growth stabilizes, the dollar weakens, it cuts costs, and it expands its higher-margin advertising business.
Those healthy operating margins suggest Netflix will remain the only profitable streaming video platform while Disney, WBD, and Paramount continue to rack up steep losses on their competing platforms.
The one reason to sell Netflix: its valuation
Analysts expect Netflix's revenue and adjusted earnings per share to rise 7% and 11%, respectively, this year. But its stock still isn't a screaming bargain at 28 times forward earnings.
It's still being valued as a FAANG stock instead of a traditional media company like Disney and Paramount, and it could be booted to the latter group if its growth in subscribers and revenues cools off again.
Netflix's stock isn't cheap, but its strengths easily outweigh the bearish concerns about its valuation. It won't surge back to its all-time highs anytime soon, but it's still a best-in-breed play on the long-term growth of the streaming media market.

I’ve got a 2021 GT, and I’m looking for a good clutch upgrade. It seems the Mcleod RST makes the car feel more responsive, and that’s what I’m leaning towards. But it seems that it needs to be broken in, with 500 miles of city driving, which seems crazy.
Any suggestions on a good clutch upgrade that doesn’t need to be broken in but might take some added power in the future?
Or does the McLeod really need to be broken in? It says it’s good for 800hp which is more than I’ll need. Thanks

2023.05.30 13:49 LeashOx CarMax vs Private Sale on CarGurus
Hey all!
I’ve finally decided to sell my 2021 M340i Xdrive and want to get some feedback. It’s well optioned with only 14.5k miles and the carmax offer doesn’t seem unreasonable ($43k) and is well above the loan balance.
I don’t drive the car that often to justify the costs for insurance and parking (live in an area with no street parking). Plus, I wouldn’t mind dumping this before cars depreciate like a rock again lol
KBB puts me around the $50k - $53k mark and just wondering how achievable KBB values are as a private seller? For context, MSRP was $67k.

2023.05.30 13:49 half_a_lao_wang Mixed people for AAPI Heritage Month [Jessica Hagedorn]
Following up on Black History Month this past February, we are now in Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. This is an event in the US to celebrate those of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage.
So, for the month of May, we will try to feature a different person mixed person each day who has Asian, Pacific Islander, or both heritages. Some may be people without American citizenship, but who are active in the US and some may be Americans who are active overseas. Hope you guys like it!
So, without further ado:
Jessica Hagedorn Jessica Tarahata Hagedorn is an American playwright, writer, poet, and multimedia performance artist.
She is the author of five books, including the novel
Dogeaters (1990), finalist for the National Book Award and winner of the American Book Award from the Before Columbus Foundation. The novel, set in Manila in the 1950s, illustrates the complexities of the love-hate relationship many Filipinos in diaspora feel toward their past. A quote from the novel:
The Suffering Pilipino: We Pinoys suffer collectively from a cultural inferiority complex. We are doomed by our need for assimilation into the West and our own curious fatalism...He describes us as a complex nation of cynics, descendants of warring tribes which were baptized and colonized to death by Spaniards and Americans, as a nation betrayed and then united only by our hunger for glamour and our Hollywood dreams.
Hagedorn is multi-generational mixed (MGM), the daughter of a Scots-Irish-French-Filipino mother and a Spanish Filipino father who also had Chinese ancestry. She was born in Manila, and moved to San Francisco when she was 14.
Although much of her writing focuses on ancestral heritage and identity, she does not feel that writers should be constrained by their background. From a recent
interview:
No. You should feel free to write whatever you want to write.
We don’t make art to represent. That has to happen organically. Filipinos are not a monolith. Humans aren’t a monolith. We all have different experiences and need to write across the different identities we hold. As artists, we should be free to write about a wide range of complicated characters and subjects.
Don’t limit yourself to only what you know. But definitely do your homework! Being a writer is hard work.
Hagedorn has also done performance pieces; here's one, entitled
Dancing (5:58), by Hagedorn and the West Coast Gangster Choir from 1976.
