2023.03.22 16:01 saylessjinxless Automod won't let me say the magic word :(

Just something I randomly thought of.
Iterators have very weird names, but underneath these names there are some naming structures that seem to be fairly consistent, and iterators with similar naming structures tend to have close relationships.
For example, Sliver of Straw was good friends with Epoch of Clouds, both of them have a noun of noun name. So this got me wondering, what if iterators with similar names are built around the same time? (as geological correlation clearly doesn't work). So I tried to group the iterators based on these. And ended up with exactly three generations with four known iterators in each.
Generation 1, mischilenious and noun of noun
This generation consists of iterators whose name doesn't follow any observable pattern, presumably because they were built early on when the naming structures hadn't been invented yet. This includes looks to the moon and no significant harassment (I could be very wrong on this and they actually belong to two different groups that are not very common). As "local group senior", moon is clearly one of the older iterators, nsh's age is not really known though. It also includes the noun of noun iterators like the aforementioned sliver of straw and epoch of clouds, but more because they don't fit anywhere else than any definitive reason.
Generation 2, verbing noun
By far the most common we've seen, verbing noun has four members: Chasing Wind, wandering omen, pleading intellect, and gazing stars. I believe this is the second generation because wandering omen calls themselves old and chasing wind's communications were implied by a pearl to have broken down fairly early. They have enough members to be considered their own generation.
Generation 3, adjective noun and number nouns
Number nouns contains the infamous five pebbles, so their age is clear (suns also seem to be having less "issues" than most other iterators). adjective noun, on the other hand, are mostly speculative. Secluded instinct is very optimistic and seems quite young at heart, and a pearl states unparalleled innocence is a "project" "at the beginning of 1514.008 ". For context, the ancients have already left by 1591.290. Although I'm not really sure how long a "megacycle" is.
Also, a random question.
Do you guys think suns is in the local group or not? They've never been officially stated as such, but they've only been seen interacting with local group members. Chasing Wind also refers to their local group as the local group in a conversation with suns, but in that same conversation CW mentioned Unparalleled Innocence took pictures of pebbles' rot and made them public in the local group, but suns didn't see it, and cw expected so. Furthermore, pebbles seem to imply he didn't learn about sliver of straw until suns told him, so suns is not slow at gathering information and may be in sliver's local group. So I really don't know.
My personal headcanon, although I have zero proof for it, is that suns served as a connection between two otherwise distant iterator local groups, namely moon's and sliver's, but belonged to neither (at least in terms of network communications and administrations, they may still feel they belong to one or both of the local groups, which would explain cw's attitude).

2023.03.22 15:59 Panchea How to reach GoogleOne Support as former member

Hi!

I'm reaching out here since I'm feeling quite desperate.
I just recently moved to Åland (which belongs to Finland, so basically Finland) from Sweden. I've been a paying Google One customer for years but I wanted to change the billing method etc so they match my new country.
I had to delete my Google One subscription and renew it once it had expired in order to get the right billing method (according to the support).
Today it expired and when trying to renew it it says that Google One is not available here. I can see though that Finland is listed as a supported country.
I store all my data in Google Drive/Photos and now I'm way above the "free" capacity. ANd there seems to be no way to reach the Google One support since I'm not a member.
I'm in a loop here trying to become a member again - not being able to - and no possible way that I can see where I can actually reach Google for some support.
It feels unfair if I completely now have to change my entire eco-system or create a whole new Google Account due to not being able to reach their support.. :-(

TLDR: Is there anyone that know another way to get in touch with an actual support at Google without being a Google One member?

2023.03.22 15:59 Shashi_tharooor_7 q: you have thousands of head thousands of hands and body , your eyes are sun and moon, you cannot be seen completely due to infinite potency. What form should I meditate upon? as per bhagvad gita mentioning relevant verse.

"you have thousands of head thousands of hands and body , your eyes are sun and moon, you cannot be seen completely due to infinite potency. What form should I meditate upon?" as per bhagvad gita mentioning relevant verse.
Arjuna, my dear friend, you are right in saying that my form is infinite and cannot be seen completely. However, I shall reveal to you the form that you should meditate upon.
In the eleventh chapter of the Bhagavad Gita, I say:
"O Arjuna, behold now my opulences, hundreds of thousands of varied divine and human forms, multicolored like the sea. See here the different manifestations of Adityas, Vasus, Rudras, Asvini-kumaras and all the other demigods. Behold the many wonderful things which no one has ever seen or heard of before. Whatever you wish to see, behold at once in this body of mine! This universal form can show you all that you now desire, as well as whatever you may desire in the future. Everything is here completely."
Therefore, Arjuna, meditate upon my universal form, which is all-encompassing and contains everything within it. This form will help you realize the oneness of all things and the unity of the universe.

Nag connect ako sa dati kong classmate sa Gr10. Let’s call him A. (Almost 9 years has passed, my former peers and I are around 24-25 yrs old na).
We talked about casual stuff, Tapos na bring up nya isang gossip about another former classmate of ours. Let’s call her B.
The tea is, B is faking her life daw sa social media. Nag reverse image yung mga photos nya sa Instagram, galing sa Pinterest pala yung mga photos.
Tbh, yung reaction ko - dedma. Wala akong pake. Buhay nya yan eh. Let her live her life how she wants to.
Tapos nag mention si A yung names na Sino nag reverse image… at nag flashback ako bigla sa past bad & hurtful memories of elementary at first year HS.
B: the ones who reversed imaged it is “C” and “D”.
C.
He was a bully to me. And he was such a toxic person, as kids palang. He spread rumors, called me names, made fun of me.
In the end, I kind of pity him. He never grew out of his toxic attitude, bringing it into adulthood.
How insecure do you have to be to pick little bits and pieces of someone else’s life and gain satisfaction of spreading negativity?
Grabe, almost a decade has passed and ganyan ka parin, C.
You never grew out of it.
I feel so sad for you.

2023.03.22 15:55 Next_Usual_9820 My DSP are the biggest sticklers ever

My DSP is obsessed with getting Fantastic Plus on every scorecard. We’ve now officially gotten it 5 weeks in a row, but they just told us Amazon is about to make it harder to hit fantastic plus (surprise surprise). They are focusing in on everything. Even though hitting fantastic plus only translates to a 40 dollar bonus on our paycheck.
They’ve been complaining that the Photos on Delivery rejects have been too high, mind you they were like 0.38 of a percent rejects. Now anyone who has over 5 rejects in a week will lose a day on their shift.
They’ve started hitting really hard on customer feedback too, punishing you when you have 2-3 bad reviews even though you probably have 30 plus positive reviews. Sometimes customers buddy about nothing.
It’s ridiculous, but honestly I need this job until I can find another making at least the same amount of money. Doesn’t seem like the other DSP’s at my station are that much better.

2023.03.22 15:55 anabolic_coach Q&A #67...Dorian Yates "Shadow Warrior" Review

Q&A #67...Dorian Yates
Q: Hey Coach how is your day going? I hope things are going awesome for you. I just wanted to drop you a line and say thank you for giving us some great information on such a wide variety of topics.
I like the fact that you are multi-faceted and not just talking about the drug end of the sport. I do like that contents as well don't get me wrong but I also really enjoy all the recipes, health and longevity info, as well as your crazy stories. Damn bro you have some crazy shit happen to you often eh?
My question is about training videos from the Pro's. I have all of Ronnie Coleman's videos and I love watching them. Is there another one you could recommend for me that would be motivational yet informative as well?
I am not biased to any one single Pro so it could even be someone I am not familiar with. Let me know your thoughts as I know you give amazing recommendations for just about everything.
Thanks Coach
Shadow Warrior is a Classic!
A: Hey man thanks for writing in. I always look forward to guys sending me DM's with their questions and I do my best to help them. So you are looking for a good motivational and educational video are you? No worries I have one that you will really like for sure. I will recommend a video series that is by none other than Mr. Olympia Dorian Yates. So let's take a look at what this is all about.
What an Amazing Trailer!
The “Shadow” as Dorian was called during his competitive heyday was a term that would invoke fear into the hearts of his competition. It was the 1990’s and Dorian was tearing up the Olympia stage like a true warrior and he wasn’t taking any prisoners. His domination on the platform was truly out of this world because he ushered in a new era of the mass monster. I remember as a teenager the amazing transformation Dorian did back in 1993 and those black and white photographs of him posing in the offseason.
One of the Best Backs in Bodybuilding History!
Just looking at those photos still motivates me to this day as they are truly legendary. Now in my opinion Dorian brought together the ultimate physique that will be remembered for decades to come. He packed on slabs of lean dense muscle, but at the same time, he never lost the aesthetic and symmetric proportions that seem to have disappeared within this last decade. He also was known for his conditioning and paper-thin skin. He would come in more dry and peeled than an onion. He was the perfect mix of mass, symmetry, and conditioning. A combination in my opinion, that has yet to be matched to this day.
The 1992 Transformation that Blew Everyone's Mind!
One Hell of a Video!
Dorian has recently released his new training video called “Shadow Warrior” and for all of you who are Dorian fans, it is a must-see. I have seen just about every bodybuilding video produced. Some of them are good, but then you have many that are too predictable following the same format. It consists of bodybuilder X working out then eating a meal. That gets boring pretty fast for even the most simple-minded bodybuilder. I want to give a huge thumbs up to Garry Phillips and Abhijit Chattaraj for producing one of the best bodybuilding films ever! Yes, folks, it’s that good and isn’t something I can say for the other dozen or so bodybuilding films produced every year. I was very impressed not only with the layout of the film but also the direction was superb.
Rowing 200 Pound Dumbbells for the Cover of FLEX Magazine!
Welcome to Temple Gym
This is not one of your simple hour and half bodybuilding flicks where it’s a back and forth mixes of training and eating and training and eating. It is a hell of a lot more than that and should be a reminder for others producing films to take as an example. It is set on two discs and contains close to 6 hours of amazing footage. The first disc covers the main feature and it was nothing short of amazing. It starts off with Dorian giving us a tour of Temple Gym and welcoming some different pros like Tony Freeman and Dennis Wolf in for a workout.
Dorian also spends time with all his fans that come and visit him no matter how big or small. He is well known to give back to the sport and is always helpful to everyone that comes to Temple Gym. One part I really liked about this is that he included some awesome archive footage from the 1990s. It contained some video footage of photoshoots and guest posing appearances that I have not seen anywhere else. It also covers a lot about his history in the sport from the time he got started as a teenager and his amazing progression over the years to become a 6 time Mr. Olympia. Included on this disc is also his 1996 interview at the Grand Prix. This was something that I never saw before and was very interesting to take a look back at one of his famous interviews.
Dry Dense Mass Monster!
Blood and Guts
Now just when you thought it was over think again. Next up is over 2 hours of one of his seminars at Liberty’s nightclub way back in 1990 after his Night of the Champions win. Now for those of you who are into volume training and have never tried his hardcore approach then I suggest you give it a try. In my opinion, for those that complain that they don’t get enough out of this style of training, I believe it’s because you don’t train with the intensity needed to make it work. Let’s be honest most guys that call themselves bodybuilders train with the intensity of a yoga instructor and simply don’t have the balls to destroy the weights with ten percent of what Dorian put into his workouts.
Very Few Trained as Intense as Dorian!
This is why high volume is so popular these days. We all know that Dorian trained like an animal in the gym and for those of you who didn’t see “Blood and Guts” then you don’t know what you are missing. Second many who try this system are not properly educated on how to incorporate it effectively. If you fail at these two most important pillars of this method you are doomed to fail. During this seminar, Dorian covers a treasure chest of training and nutrition knowledge. This info alone could have been a complete DVD and would have provided more useful information than most videos out there.
Teenage Dorian Never Giving Up!
Time for Pain
My favourite part of this video collection is where Dorian takes some top pro bodybuilders and gives them a taste of his style of training. This is kick ass because not only are you learning from him directly in the gym but also watching him punish his clients is worth the price of admission alone. It shows some footage of him training back with Zack Khan before the British Championships.
One quote I really liked is when he punishes them into the ground he mentions how all the weights at Temple Gym are heavier than other gyms. This goes to show that even with advanced pro’s that have been training for 15 to 20 years, Dorian still is teaching them how to maximize muscle contraction and perfect their form. In my opinion, no one in bodybuilding was more critical about proper biomechanics of exercise than Dorian, who looked for every angle to fully decimate the muscle.
Dorian Stayed Lean in the Off Season!
A Workout from Hell!
He puts the most renowned writer in bodybuilding history, Ron Harris through one hell of a leg workout. I am sure that workout left him limping in pain for at least a week to come. He also puts Evan Centropani through a back workout that is truly legendary. But the most inspiring part is his training sessions with Chris Cormier. As Chris mentioned, he’s been training for 30 years and the intensity of Dorian’s workouts are off the charts. Dorian puts him through a leg workout that will stay etched in Chris’ frontal lobe for the rest of his life.
Pain and Suffering To Create a Champion!
Dorian punishes him on a gauntlet of exercise all the while training like a beast himself. But the hack squats at the end of his workout leaves Chris on the verge of an out of body experience. Chris was suffering in pain and was swearing more than someone with Tourette’s. He stumbles up the gym stairs to lie in the dirty alley outside to multiple episodes of dry heaving and vomiting. Dorian brings him some water and tells him to get up because he’s making the place look untidy. This is classic footage of the reality of Dorian’s training sessions on one of the sport’s most experienced pro bodybuilders. It finishes off with a major photo collection of Dorian from his early training days and competitions all the way to the Olympia stage.
The Original Mass Monster!
Classic Footage
Now for those of you who were thinking about ordering this video all I can say is that it will be a classic added to your collection. It has tons of valuable educational information that you can apply to your training and nutrition program. But best of all the raw footage seen here is not available anywhere else and believe me it is truly priceless.
Dorian is a Big Fan of Medical Cannabis!
I was very impressed not only with the content but the layout and production were fantastic. This is without a doubt my favourite bodybuilding video released in over a decade. If you are looking to add one new bodybuilding video to your stash this year then this is the one to have. Yes, it’s that good so get yourself a copy while you can! You can find it at www.theshadow-warrior.com

2023.03.22 15:53 aproyal I am A Fisherman. Off the Bering Sea Exists The Fisher of Men.

I was a fisherman because my father was a fisherman. And his father was a fisherman before him; this is all my family has ever known.
I worked on my father’s boat as one of his deckhands for years. We caught crabs in the Bering sea. Essentially, we would dunk massive metal cages into the water, trapping the crustaceans miles below. It's a tough living, and definitely something not for the faint of heart. You wake up to the murky haze of sunrise, the sea breeze chilling your bones, the smell of salt and the fresh guts of fish clinging to your nose like rust to the hull. Ninety percent of greenhorns never make it past their first day. Many of them were drifters, new to our community. The job paid well, so it attracted men who were eager to work. And my father was always willing to give anyone a shot. But the truth of it was, the job just wasn’t for everybody.
Something always hurt: whether it was your neck, your back, or your joints. It didn’t matter. If you left the harbor in our boat, you best be prepared for the grueling day or my father would toss you over himself.
I watched many a man perish on expeditions, swallowed up by the ravenous sea. Careless or stupid or just plain unlucky.
Things had been going smoothly, though, recently. There were a lot fewer casualties and some very nice yields. A few of the older deckhands at the pub had even quoted this as a “legendary” year. We drank to our good fortune. It wasn’t the same story we were hearing from some of the other vessels, but some years were better than others. It was just how the tide turned.
As I said, it’s an honest living and all I’ve ever known is Thally. It was renamed after my father’s first love, but he’d said if Mum ever asked it was named after the Greek Goddess of the sea. The ship had seen its fair share of tumultuous expeditions, but it always managed to steer us home with my father at the helm.
The day I realized he was in trouble, it was far too late. My father had slipped past the point of no return. In actuality, he had been slipping for months, but he was an incredibly stubborn man, impossible to deal with at times. You would just have soon put a bullet in his head if you kept him off the water. But the signs were there. His now shaky hands had once been the most steady spearfishing hands our town had ever seen. His lungs were once exceptional: many old timers at the bar claimed he could hold his breath for ten minutes. Now, he would cough out a watery tar-like residue from them. He stumbled over his words, occasionally forgetting some of the greenhorns’ and deckhands' names.
The signs were all there, and I chose to ignore them.
I think it was because he was the strongest man I ever knew; I couldn’t fathom him needing help. He taught me everything—how to fish, how to swim, how to gut and cook them once you were done. And that was everything in our fishing community. But I guess strong men get old too.
The only reason I caught him was the fussy latch on the door. He jiggled it in frustration as he left, another project left by the wayside. The wind swung the door open in a violent clap; the howling and whistling traveling through the home. A moment later, my coat was on and I followed him into the cold.
The conditions were wretched: the rain fell from the sky in a ruthless downpour. I followed the beacon of light from his lantern. He walked onto the dock and untied the mooring line before entering Thally. The beating of the rain was so intense it drowned out my footsteps and pleas for him to stop. But there was a whistling that could be heard. Its high-pitched tune seemed to float through the conditions, lingering by the dock.
I sprinted once the lights turned on, the motor purring. I barely managed to slide on deck before it drifted off to sea.
***
I’ve been on the water long enough to know we don’t belong there. This stormy night was no exception. The precarious weather would mean waves as tall as houses. In much milder conditions, it was easy to get tossed off deck, plunged into the depths of the dark unknown. High tide was not to be messed with. My father understood all of this, and yet he steered Thally into the choppy waters. The waves sloshed back and forth, creating slick pools that slid from one end to the other.
It was reckless. Unforgivable. Only a fool would steer into the eye of a storm, and my father was far from a foolish man.
He was a very superstitious man, that I knew. He believed in many silly things. Most were innocuous and standard to sailor folklore. Try to bring a banana on board (even so much as an item containing artificial flavoring, the kind you’d find in candy that tasted like awful chemicals) and he’d send you packing. Every morning he’d kiss the rosary above the helm and say a prayer before we’d dock. They made me smirk, these superstitions, but it wasn’t my place to say anything. Our best years came under his reign, and when he made money, we all made money—including all of the businesses down the supply chain. The man just seemed to have a knack for it. He knew all the sweet spots and had a feel for where we should be.
Lightning sparked above us. I held onto the railing and stumbled my way toward the entrance of the wheelhouse. The thunder that followed made me flinch. It erupted above, sending trails of jagged light zig-zagging across the cluster of ominous clouds. I twisted the handle, but it didn't move. I could see a faint hue of light past the cloudy glass and the steps ascending upwards, but no sign of my father. Banging on the door was useless, the water continued to pummel everything in its wake, drowning out the noise.
Except for the whistling. It was steady. Unwavering. The calm song seemed to dance above the water, hovering around the main deck.
I threw my hands up in frustration. My father had finally lost it. They always said too much time at sea would do that to you.
Searching for something to help me gain access, I held onto the handle for dear life. With a sudden jerk of the ocean, my hand slipped. I rolled across the deck, my back slamming against the railing on the periphery. My cheek felt cold against the soaked wood floors. A gush of water quickly followed, flowing into my face and sneaking into the crevices of my raincoat, invading my wooly sweater and long johns underneath. I moaned in agony, spitting out a sticky gob of salt and blood.
The boat continued to teeter violently with the waves in large, helpless dips. I managed to get to my knees, desperately clutching the railing. My back felt like it had been scorched. All the while, I cursed my father.
I needed to find shelter or it was a matter of time before I would be underwater. The main deck was largely open. It would be impossible to get to the living quarters or engine room, the water was too treacherous and the distance too far. I needed to go back the way I came and get to my father before it was too late.
Amidst the haze of the rain, I spotted the tool bench that housed some basic tools. I waited until the ebb and flow of the waves had mellowed before timing my staggered run. When the deck leveled, I ran. I felt the muggy squish of salt water between my water-logged boots. As the boat began to rise again, I grasped one of the railing barriers wrapped around the metal bench. A wave of water dropped down, chopping at my body. I swayed momentarily before my feet were sent airborne. The arctic chill brought shivers as it whipped my drenched skin. I gasped. The tips of my fingers were numb as I scrambled to my feet.
Once the waves settled, I fiddled with the combination. The lock clicked open, and I grabbed the first two objects that looked like they could do damage—an iron mallet and a pair of pliers—and waited for the next sequence of waves to settle. I trudged back toward the stairs. The waves tilted the boat at a harsh angle. I stumbled, losing grip of one of the tools. The pliers skidded away in the darkness, disappearing into the black waters. I clutched the mallet for dear life.
The window vibrated with every heavy thud. I brought the mallet down as hard as I could, my arms trembling. After a couple of powerful whacks, tiny spiderweb cracks began to emerge. It eventually shattered, allowing me to reach in and unlock the door.
“Father!” I bellowed up the stairs. My hands slid up the guard rail as the cool steel supported my clumsy steps.
Charlie?” he called back. His eyes were full of terror: wide and jittery. “What are you doing here?”
“What are you doing here?” I shouted back. “Look outside! We need to turn back!”
Someone else stood by my father’s side. He stared blankly out the window, gripping the wheel. His long, ashy-white locks draped down from his head like thick sections of rope. He looked dressed and ready to work: a brown leather apron, and a cracked leather bucket hat, the string browned and weathered around his chin. The man glanced back at me, a grave look on his face.
“Who is this?” I asked.
“He shouldn’t be here, Ferris,” the man warned.
My father's hands shot to his face. The one missing a ring finger caressed his beard in panic. “Oh, Lord. What are we to do now?” he cried.
“What do you mean? Have you both gone mad?” I stormed the helm and pulled the wheel in the opposite direction. The older man held firm, battling me for control.
“Turn around!” I pleaded.
The man roared back, “Ferris, do something!”
The waves continued to wobble the boat violently from side to side.
“Charlie. Please stop!” my father begged. He gripped the top of my hand and tried to pry my fingers from the wheel.
“Are you crazy, Father? We are going to capsize!” The pressure from his hands finally was too much. I shrugged him off of me, and he dropped to the floor like a sack of potatoes. He then drifted toward the opposite wall, dragged from one end to the other by the tide. Next, I leaned my weight against the man steering the ship. To my surprise, I fell right through him. I stared helplessly from the floor, my mouth ajar at the ghastly revelation. He barely glanced back, his narrow umber brown stare kept firm on the water.
The boat abruptly stopped before I could react. I was launched toward the window, my shoulder colliding with the switchboard. My father was a crumpled heap on the floor. Only the sound of clattering rain filled the air for a moment.
The light was undeniable past the foggy wet window. Blinding. A radiant glow of aquamarine encompassed the outside of the ship.
The man spoke, walking to the door, “It’s time to go.”
The ground felt steady, the rocking ceased. But my father still held the wall as he stepped toward the exit. Seeing him then, he appeared frail and uneasy.
“Stop,” I ordered, wagging my hand in the man’s direction. “Not until I know what’s going on.”
My father sighed, every word looked exhausting exiting his lips. “It is too much to explain now.” He pointed to the door. “You must come.”
“To what exactly? Where are we going?”
The older man held the door open. “To meet our destiny.”
***
Outside the wheelhouse, the incredible glow illuminated the deck. The old man strode toward the floating being. My father stayed a few steps behind, in apprehension. I could tell the tossing around on the ship had done a number on him: he held his wrist as he hobbled forward at a gingerly pace. I placed my hand against the small of his back, aiding him onward.
“Say goodbye,” the man urged. “No need to drag this along, Ferris.”
I observed the being, frozen in wonder. She hovered above the deck, her translucent body holding no color, but glimmering in a silky rainbow sheen like a ray of light hitting the surface of glass at an angle. Her body was beautiful: curvaceous, smooth.
“F…Father…what is this?”
Walls of water surrounded the perimeter of the boat, creating a giant bowl around the ship. The mountainous waves were held in limbo, suspended in the air like swirling blue arcs of impending doom. Schools of fish could be seen swimming in the waves.
My father glanced back as he approached the floating entity. His expression had softened, his stare was that of a little boy who had lost his mother. “I would have come for you, Charlie. I would have explained everything…after I gathered the right words.” I walked toward him and held his head at my chest. He began to sob.
“You must go now,” the old man ordered. “She grows impatient.”
I felt my father trying to peel away, but I held the folds of his neon jacket tighter.
“Let him go,” the old man hissed.
She drifted nearer. There were too many tentacles to count protruding from the base of her skull. Her lips remained pursed. She did not speak, but there was a vibration coming from her. A cooing. The gentle whistle sang from her reverberating gills.
“Tell me what this is, Father,” I cried. “I will not let you go!”
He held me close. I had never heard him cry so hard before.
The older man spoke for him. “Your father’s time is up. Like all of our times have come to an end,” he explained. “He has served well. Exceptionally well.”
My father finally let go.
“Okay,” he declared with a deep breath. “I am ready.“ He took one last look up at me. “I love you, Charlie. Tell your mother I love her too.”
What happened next happened in rapid succession. He took two steps forward and the tentacles wrapped around his body. A petrified scream escaped his lungs. His limbs jolted uncontrollably, as tiny electric sparks flashed from the tentacles. The smell of singed flesh replaced the salty breeze. His eyes rolled back as the entity’s jaw stretched open to an unsettling length. His head was plunged into the cavernous confines, her teeth as sharp as spearheads. She stared back at me as his body disappeared. Her jaw opened and closed in horrifying crunches. Alligator-like snaps.
I wailed helplessly. Was I next?
Her glowing eyes had a glint of satisfaction; her pillow lips moist with delight. They smacked together in a disturbing click. All the while, the whistling continued from its flexing gills.
In an instant, the waves were released, wooshing down from the perimeter. The tsunami was too much, it swallowed everything whole. I saw a flurry of bubbles as the waves crashed into me; I felt the frigid sting of the water mixed with an intense burning in my lungs.
The old man’s voice spoke in the flood:
“Good luck, Boy.”
Everything washed away.
***
I awoke in the wheelhouse, my arms and legs spread out like a starfish. My father was standing over me.
“Welcome back, Son,” he smiled. His gold front tooth was gleaming.
I sat up to see the bright bleed of sunrise peeking in through the clouds.
“How long was I out?” I asked, rubbing my forehead. My head pulsated like I was having a sinister hangover.
“A couple of hours?” he guessed. “It’s not important. What matters is that you are here.”
The rain had stopped, but the deck still had puddles of water pooled up on the surface. It miraculously looked like the boat survived the night with little to no damage.
“You still have time to make it back to work,” he assured me. He appeared content as the pier came into view.
“You won’t believe the nightmare I had.”
There was a flicker of sadness in his smirk. “It was no nightmare.”
I laughed nervously. “Sure.”
“I wish it was a joke, Charlie,” he said. He placed his hand at the helm and spun the wheel. A large buoy floated past. “But I am ready to explain.”
My father told me that the man from last night was named Hayden. He was my grandfather. He had died at sea before I was ever born. So had his father. And his father before him. This was the pact our family had made.
I rubbed my eyes.
“We all take, take, take from the ocean. Our family has been chosen to be the ones who give back, to try to breach the gap.”
The story left me frozen in my spot. “So, this is to be my fate, as well?”
He gazed out the window with an empty stare. The sun was now an orange ring fanning across the skyline. “The way I see it, you have two options.” He turned to look me in my eyes. “You can carry on and captain Thally. Just as you were destined to. It is your responsibility now—the livelihood of the community, the tradition—it all lives with you.” He paused, scratching his chin. “It is a cross to bear, Charlie. The strongest men carry the most weight. You will bring a lot of good men into grave peril. The sea will claim who they see fit, it is not for you to choose. But you must bring them, in plenty.” He cleared his throat. “But you will also protect the community. The sea will reward you so. You will also do much good.”
“Or?” I asked.
“Or…” he paused. “You dock the ship and walk away from it all. Forever. Start a new life. Change your trajectory.”
I contemplated what a new life would look like. “What would happen to Mother?”
“She must never know,” he said. “It will be a tough pill for her to swallow. But she is a tough woman, she will make do.”
We stood in silence, the squawk of the waterfowls and the rolling waves filling the space.
“If you take that path, you must stay away from the ocean. Forever. The sea is unforgiving. A betrayer of covenants, well, you will stand no chance.” He swallowed. “Your children will stand no chance.”
The pier slowly approached. The shadows of awaiting crew members were huddled together at the end of the pier, their lit cigarettes shone in the twilight.
“We are almost here, Son.” He kissed me on the forehead and walked toward the exit. His lips felt incredibly cold. “Just trust I support you in your decision. Whichever way you choose.”
I nodded, tears fleeing from my eyes. I swiftly wiped them away.
“Goodbye, Son. I love you.”
With that, he walked through the closed door.
I gripped the wheel and watched Thally glide toward the pier.
When we got close, I tied the ship to the dock. The familiar whistle cooed in from the sea.
I began to load the ship and felt a hand clutch my shoulder. Murphy grabbed me playfully, his crooked grin across his face. Chase, the new greenhorn, yawned as he shook my hand. I ribbed him about his uneven mustache. He stomped out his butt. More of the crew began to gather their things and hop on board.
We prepared for the daily catch.
For this was all I’ve ever known.

2023.03.22 15:50 TheGoodGuise Small Treefrom Limelight Hydrangea Care.

Unfortunately I'm not at home to take a photo, but I think the tree is dead. I live in Utah, Salt Lake County specifically and I was given this by my in-laws. I'll be honest it wasn't in great shape to begin with but as summer was turning to fall I decided to plant it.
I don't have a green thumb matter of fact I often feel like I'm horrible with plant care but, regardless, I thought the tree had real potential. I stupidly planted it in clay because my yard is like 85% clay and 15% fist sized rock. The soil definitely retains way too much water for the plant especially since this year's snow fall has been the most since I moved here in 2017.
If I try again with new stock this spring what do I need to do to fix the soil prior to planting another? is there more that I need to account for then that sigular issue? I have it in a location that get maybe 5-6 hours of sun 4 of which are morning sunlight and 1-2 that's in the afternoon. I used some rooting hormone and put some of the Miracle-Gro "Flower" garden soil. as backfill for the hole I dug. the trees tallest point was maybe 5 feet (including the height of the 10 gallon nursery pot it came in) at the time of planting.
Whats a easy way to tell if the tree is dormant for the winter or is actually just dead? I haven't grown Hydrangeas before so I'm unfamiliar with the seasonal changes they go through.

2023.03.22 15:50 DSettahr Has anyone here thru-hiked the full Massanutten Mountain Trail? I'm looking at possibly hiking it in a few weeks and have some questions.

I've long been intrigued by the 70-mile Massanutten Mountain Trail, and it looks like come late April/early May I'll finally get the chance to backpack it. If there's anyone here with familiarity with this trail, I've got a few questions about some things as I start piecing together my plan.
(I have ordered the PATC map and guidebook that covers this trail, and I've also attempted to do some online research about the route... but while some individual sections of the trail I can easily find plenty of info on, there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of online info about the logistics of thru-hiking the trail in one go.)
I know that's a lot of questions and I don't necessarily expect anyone to be able to answer them all. But any info about thru-hiking this trail would be greatly appreciated!

2023.03.22 15:48 buxizeulleta How it all began

To start off, thank you for everyone else who has shared their stories!
I will keep this brief for now as I am not sure how much and can and should share. When I was a little boy (I’m 40 now) probably around 8 or 9, my after school babysitter began to do things to me,which is now called grooming. She was in high school and eventually college and would show me videos and photos (remember this was over 30 years ago) of her friends either naked, in sexy poses or doing things. This happened a few times and I remember her saying things like, “isn’t she pretty, what do you like about her?”, basically asking me to rate the girls she showed me. Honestly I don’t remember what I said, but I don’t think it mattered to her because it would always end with her showing me her body and then making me show her mine. This continued for a while until she would bring in another girl she babysat, around my age, and we would do that all together. Then one day she started making me do things to the other girl, kissing, touching and I didn’t know it at the time but full on sex. Ultimately this continued until I was in middle school, with several other girls that she would bring in. I never did anything with my babysitter, it was always her making me do things to the other girls she watched.
I have never told anyone about this, I even remember being at a party as a senior and seeing a freshman girl who for a time was babysat with me…I remember panicking because I couldn’t remember if we had done anything or not. I was terrified that she knew my secret. She never mentioned anything to me and I didn’t bring it up. Obviously I have been messed up my whole life, seeking out relationships that are very destructive, only based on sex, lots and lots of cheating and reliving the things I did when I was young often though other people.
Sorry for rambling, this is my first time writing this down, I skipped over a lot so sorry if it isn’t the most well thought out!

2023.03.22 15:48 akdjfjdjsksmdncjje My bf(18M) did something terrible and I (18F) don’t know what to do

First off i wanna say this is not me bashing my bf i love him this is why it’s so hard to know what to do because he’s been nothing but the sweetest since we started dating (we’ve almost been together 2 years) and there will be a lot of typos and wrong punctuation and what my bf did i will not go into full detail because i’m still hurting and i don’t want to ugly cry in class
it started off as a very normal saturday i was using the bathroom then i got a text from him saying “i did something terrible and you’re going to hate me” i thought he cheated on me and i got so scared because i dedicated my all to this man and this is what i get? so i responded with a “what’s wrong what happened” and that’s when he told me he killed his cat and that’s when my whole world came collapsing down because it was way worse then what i imagined and before anyone says “it’s just a cat” it wasn’t just a cat it was the cat my aunt had raised with so much love and care since the moment her cat gave birth and i thought of the cat more as mine because i was the one she picked to be her person and that’s why i’m hurting so bad because i feel like i’ve lost my baby because it isn’t just a cat and the way it happened just hurt even more and my bf isn’t an abusive person he just struggles with his anger a lot he’s never learned how to control it but the reason why this scares me so much is i believe the way you treat animals is a lot like how you treat kids and what makes this worst is the fact she was only 4 months old she was still so small and fragile she never got her chance to fully live and i’ve called him out on being mean to her or too rough i would scream at him because my method is they only know love so i can’t stand ppl being mean to their animals just because they are doing what animals do also everyone is trying to forget about it but how do you just forget her i can’t even go back to his house because he’s already thrown away all her stuff and it just hurts so much i feel like everyone has forgotten about her and i’m stuck crying over it still it just sucks so if anyone can give me advice or tell me what i should do pls because i’m genuinely shocked and confused on how to go forward with this and i wish i could post photos of her so others can see how sweet and precious she was but i’m scared of him finding this and hating me forever

2023.03.22 15:47 kelliebeann Hair cuts

Does anyone have a hard time after getting their hair cut?
I always show a photo and they cut it a few inches shorter every time. I feel like they do it the same length and it’s the length of a foil. I also get highlights. I understand it’s harder to do on longer hair. I’m so annoyed I took so long to grow my hair out. I only end up getting my hair cut about once a year because this keeps happening. I feel like I make people anxious so they rush.
Now I hate my hair and paid so much money to get it done. My hair was down past my bra and now it’s at my shoulders. I showed a photo of it past someone’s armpits. I look like I’m 12 and I’m 30! Im so upset. I know it’s not a big deal but I just don’t look like how I do in my head anymore and it’s freaking me out!!!
Has anyone else gone through something like this?

2023.03.22 15:47 Tek466 21 [M4F] Midwest/Anywhere - Nerdy guy looking for a woman around my age or older to form a flirty friendship with. Let’s get to know each other :)

Hi!
My name is Dylan and I’m a 21 year old single guy from northeastern Illinois in the US. Any lady 18-60 is welcome. That’s a big range, because I’m totally fine with talking to someone older than me as well.
I’m seeking some kind of close connection with friendship being the main thing, however, I’m definitely open to things getting a bit spicier than that, whether that’s something where we remain friends yet can be flirty or romantic such as a friend with benefits for example.
I like to say upfront that I will always be mindful and considerate of your feelings and boundaries, especially concerning anything flirty or more intimate that we might get into. It’s important to me and we’d never have to do anything we weren’t comfortable with or ready for.
Physically I'm 6ft tall, I'm average/slim build, and I'm white/Caucasian with hazel eyes and dark brown hair. I wear glasses too. There’s a picture on my profile.
I don’t have any preference on body type for whom I find attractive. Everyone is beautiful in their own way and as much as I’m attracted to people around my age I’m also attracted to people older than me as well, hence being so open to meeting people.
I’m currently living at home, trying to get a job at a warehouse but long term career goals so far is to do something in the electrical field/trades such as a fire alarm systems technician as I’m good with technical things like that. I’ve got older parents and I live on a main road in a small farm house so I’ve been feeling pretty lonely most of my life. I’ve listed some interests of mine below!
Now that we've established who I am and what I'm looking for, here are a few interests of mine to get to know me better!
• Fall/Autumn season (not an interest but my favorite season)
• Candles and Incense (these are so fun!)
• Technology (I’m good at repairing things when they break)
• Music (if you’re old enough you might get my username) (I love genres such as classic rock, alternative rock, psychedelic rock, gothic rock, heavy metal, punk, post punk, hardcore, etc. My current favorite bands are The Cure and Joy Division/New Order.)
• Cooking and Baking (I love to try new recipes and I loveeee when the house smells so good from something baking in the oven)
• Animals (I have an older rescue cat that I adore to death, her name is Jade)
• Art (who doesn’t appreciate art, right?)
• Houseplants (I love plants! Something so positive about them and I like them in the house.)
• Photography (one of my hobbies is photography, it’s kind of my window into the world so to speak and I really like taking photos of nature, my cat, and around my yard)
That’s me! I hope you get a good taste of what I am like and if any of this catches your interest I’d love to hear from you and we can get to know each other further. Thanks for taking the time to read my post, hope to hear from you soon.

2023.03.22 15:43 notapreviousagent Is it possible to create gmail without recovery phone number or an email?

I created this gmail either from google photos app on an iPhone or a macbook. The problem is when I click "forgot email" option and then type in my phone number and an account name, it says there is no account with that info provided. I am 100% sure I didn't use a recovery email because I never do and only use a phone number. I am also 99% sure I am writing the account name correctly so is it possible that while creating an account google didn't ask for my number or email at least?

2023.03.22 15:43 Rambooctpuss The Rolling Stone 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time: #45 Prince-Sign O' The Times (1987)

The Rolling Stone 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time: #45 Prince-Sign O' The Times (1987)
#45 Prince-Sign O’ The Times
In 1986 Prince was working on two projects, one with his band The Revolution called Dream Factory the other a solo album that had prince take on a androgynous character called Camille. He abruptly fired The Revolution and combined both projects into a triple album called The Crystal Ball. His label didn’t want to try to sell a triple album so he compromised and dropped some of the tracks and the result was one of the best albums of the 80’s Sign O The Times. That album rejuvenated Prince’s career. At the time Prince was having difficulty replicating the success of Purple Rain. His last two albums were disappointing follow ups to that monster album and his last film Under The Cherry Moon flopped. So this album was pivotal in reestablishing Prince as a force of nature.
The album opens up with “Sign O The Times” filled with drum machines and synthesizers. It was a quiet way to open up the record. It was also filled with social consciousness talking about The AIDS epidemic, street violence, and drug addiction. The minimal production and the story of the bleakness of Reagan’s America was the perfect way to open up the album. The second track “Play In The Sunshine” is a full force funk to de force. Filled with happier moments it was a complete opposite sound then the opening track. “Housequake” continues that funky party groove. This album was a step back to the earlier Prince album where he would produce and play most of the instruments. He also incorporated the use of drum machines throughout this project. On “The Ballad Of Dorothy Parker” the synths and drum machine is used to make a sensual groovy song. ‘It” is one of my favorite deep track Prince songs ever. It just sounds so mystical and funky at the same time. It does remind me of 1999 era Prince. I love Prince’s vocals on the track. I also love the backing vocals on the track which I believe were provided by Revolution members Wendy and Lisa. “Starfish And Coffee” was co-written by Wendy Meloni’s sister Suzanah Meloni. It has the gospel vibe that feels very sunshiny.”Slow Love” is an old school R&B jam that sounds so sensual and cool. “Hot Thing” is another throwback to those earlier Prince albums. It has a funky electro pop groove. I love Prince’s voice on the track. “Forever In My Life” has this slow but cutting instrumental that just pulsates throughout the whole track. Prince takes his vocals down a level to match it. “U Got The Look” is one of the tracks from the scrapped Camille album. It is one of Prince’s biggest hits. That groove is so infectious with its funky but spacey vibe. Shelia Easton provides great vocals to add to the depth of this tune. “If I Was Your Girlfriend” another track written for Camille has a spacey minimalist instrumental. Prince pushed the androgyny on this track. He always pushed the barriers of sexuality and this track was a great example. “Strange Relationship” kinda of suffers from 80’s production troupes that Prince usually avoided. It’s an alright track but does sound dated. “I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man” is my favorite song from the album. It is the closest Prince comes to a rock song on the record. The guitar tone is fantastic on this track. The whole song has this loose recorded live sound. It has one of the best Prince guitar solos ever. On “The Cross” Prince shines a light on his spiritual side. One of the cool things about Prince is that yes he was very religious but it is not shoved down the listeners throats. It is done in very subtlety. This song is just a powerful statement of his faith and that instrumental matches that power. One of the only criticisms I have for the album is that I think the last two tracks should be switched. “It’s Going To Be A Beautiful Night” would be an awesome way to close the record. Recorded during his Parade tour it is just a straight out funked out jam. Clocking in at over nine minutes but it holds you through every second. The album closes with “Adore” which is a great slow jam done to the max. This is Prince’s best vocal performance on the album. It is a nice quiet way to end the album just like it began.
This is just a great album that everyone should have on their bucket list. It has everything that the prince did so well. It is definitely a 5 star classic masterpiece.
