The Department of Biochemistry & Organic Chemistry is located at the Uppsala Biomedical Center, close to the Departments of Cell & Molecular Biology, Physical & Analytical Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Chemistry. Research at the department focuses on organic synthesis, organometallic chemistry, physical organic chemistry and chemical biology. The department consists of 65 employees of which 35 are graduate students.
The research in organic chemistry at the department is broad and ranges from method development in organic synthesis to biomedical applications and applications in materials science.

- Physical organic chemistry

Appointment period: The PhD position is for four years, extendable to a maximum of five years by including department duties at a level of at most 20% (typically teaching). The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) MUST project is open to all U.S. citizens, who are pursuing an undergraduate degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) discipline at a college or university that is accredited in the United States are eligible for the MUST funding opportunity. MUST is administered by the Hispanic College Fund through a consortium that includes the United Negro College Fund Special Programs Corporation and the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers. Participation is highly competitive and can be renewed through a student’s junior year.
Each year, the MUST Project supports undergraduate students with:
-A one year competitive scholarship of up to half of tuition and fees, not to exceed $10,000.
-The opportunity to participate in a paid 10-week NASA summer internship at one of 10 NASA field centers.

Kaiser Permanente College To Caring Program offers funds to students who are juniors or seniors in college pursuing a bachelors degree in nursing.
Students who are selected will receive a scholarship for $8,000 each year they attend nursing school.
C2C Scholars will also receive a $2,000 stipend for the summer work study program at Kaiser Permanente!
Individual Awards: $8,000
Eligibility Requirements:
-Must be Hispanic or of Hispanic descent
-Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, residing in Northern California
-Must be studying full-time in the United States or Puerto Rico
-Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher
-Must demostrate financial need
